Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

I've been watching for a long time and I don't get too gaga over players but last night I was screaming at the tv for every player to give the puck to Demidov, just like the fans in that clip from last night.
OldCraig's screaming:

I wonder if you could have told Hughes how the Demidov situation would play out and that the playoffs were in reach what he would've done different at the deadline. I would have loved to have someone like Horvat or Monahan in that spot right now.

The problem is that many here complain what Newhook isn’t and are blind to what he is. As one of the faster forwards in the league Newhook’s speed will open up the ice even more for Demidov.

Newhook is on pace to score 82 goals a season playing with Demidov. Unfortunately, for some here, even that wouldn’t be enough.

Just joking to make a point.

I hope Newhook spends the summer practicing his shot, because while he may not get to play center next season, he might be used on the wing on the same line, cuz let's face it, Laine is not here to stay.

Demidov’s ability to cut on a dime, change directions sharply without losing control of the puck is most impressive. He was shedding his checkers with ease and created time and space to use his great vision. It was fantastic to watch his interplay with Hutson. Those two will be a menace to opposing team for the next decade.

Their combined magic might not be enough to carry us to the playoffs this year. But the future has never been brighter.
For sure, his edge work is elite. And so fun to watch. Make the playoffs or not, I'm very pleased with how this season has gone and share your optimism

I've been lurking all season long, did not comment on anything as I wanted to wait until I could see him play with my own eyes before doing so.

I've been an NHL (and Habs) fan for 25 of my 33 years on this Earth, and I know it pales in comparison to some of the other posters here, but I don't think I've ever been that convinced EVER that a player would be a superstar as much as I'm convinced that Demidov will.

Very few players have made that impression on me in their first game. It was absolutely glaring that Demidov was the most skilled player for both teams on Tuesday and I'm definitely optimistic for the future of this team for the first time in my life.

I'm convinced he's going to be a multiple 100+ pts seasons kind of player if everything goes right.

He’s so good at manipulating defenders.

He wants to operate from the right corner, so pulls D behind the net and turns on a dime.

Or on the assist … when he gets the puck on the half wall … he doesn’t skate directly towards the near post where the D can use his stick to defend. Instead he skates to the corner to gain separation, then skates at the defender to freeze them. Subtle, but smart.

There are only 3 people that can keep up to his skillset and IQ right now.
Suzuki
Hutson
Cole - he will bury those passes

I'm thinking Slaf can, but not sure.. he seems like more of a passer these days when the puck isn't going in off his hip or skate.

Notice, our best players are not big.

None of Demidov, Hutson, Suzuki, and Caufield are big. And I don't think it's a problem. And I'm ready to add more players of their size if they come with their IQ, skill, and character.

Don't think Slaf can atm. But unlike others Slaf bring something else to the table. Slaf needs to be more consistent but when he's on top of his game he's a disruptive player unlike others.

that's been my main complaint since 94, our core is small! Slaf is the only one over 200lbs, we need Beck, Florian , Tuch to make the team and add some jam.
