he’s admitted to never having watched him. Why he has so many posts with strong opinions about him is not computing to me.
I am a Leaf fan and as much as the Leafs need a player like Schaeffer, you can’t deny what Demidov seems to be and that is similar to a guy like Kaprizov. Will he be that good? Who the hell knows, but will Schaeffer be the next Makar or Hughes? Who the hell knows?
I think it really depends on what your needs as a team. If the Leafs had first overall they’d probably take the dman, if it’s a team starving for game breaking forwards, they probably go with Demidov. Saying one is clearly better than the other though is a fools game that no one will know until they are both in the NHl

Yes but hes the top winger in the league and you can argue you would rather have any of the top 10? centers over him and maybe top 5 D?

What top10 centers over Kaprizov? McDavid, MacKinnon, Draisaitl? That's probably it.

Id rather have Matthews, Eichel, Barkov. Could argue Hughes Crosby Point? Not taking anything away from Kaprizov hes been unreal.

Good context. The difference here is Demidov is playing against men and the KHL is a very competitive league. Schaefer looks very good but it is CHL production which is difficult to project. We have seen many guys put up some unreal numbers in the CHL but stall at the NHL level or when they turn pro.
Demidov's fight to ern more time with SKA as the season moved along shows his willingness to overcome challenges. This is a huge area of development and one of the most important ingredients. Most guys drafted top 10 have lots of skill and "potential". I just see the "it factor" with him on how he overcomes challenges. It looks very good
We are talking about 73 CHL games at age 16/17 for Schaefer (0.53 pts/game). I'm sure he continues to rack up more points and develop well but there is no sample against men. Not saying he will disappoint, I'm just saying you really don't know much until they turn pro. With Hutson, we were pumping him up but we were also pondering his size and how he will look against pros at the AHL or NHL level. That was talked about in our herd, believe it or not.
I think Schaffer will be worth more than Kaprizov in his prime if that helps. Just like Dahlin is worth more than Kucherov. Wingers don’t hold the value of dman. I’ll take any elite dman over any winger
To be fair Columbus turned down a package at 4 which would have seen Chicago's unprotected first be moved to them and they would have picked Demidov at 4. You could see it through the lense is Chicago better off for this trade happening or not (of course we offered the Isles first too.)

Dahlin is a solid young defenseman; Kucherov has been a top 5 players for years now
They are nowhere close to have the same value, and it's not on Dahlin's favor
Respectfully disagree. I don’t think a winger can hold that kind of value. I’ll take a 90 point C or Dman over a 120 point winger anyday. I believe most GMs would aswell
