Demidov in games where he's played over 9:14 TOI has 34 pts in 33 gms and that's with going about 2 months without seeing much if any PP TOI. He's yet to play 1 second of 5 on 3 PP this year.

Interesting thread, considering the rumor that Chicago offered their unprotected 2025 1st for Columbus's 4OA 2024 pick to try to scoop Demidov. If true, the Hawks valued Demidov over this upcoming draft class.

If Chicago was targeting Demidov with their 1st and 2nd this year, I suppose Habs could extract that again.
I wouldn't do it because he already looks like a game breaker in the KHL - a men's league.
As mentioned, I would prefer to package both 1sts and a good prospect to try and get into the top 10 and target a C.
Schaefer is a tantalizing prospect, but habs look good with Hutson, Guhle and Reinbacher skating and rehabbing.
Dach has been great lately but he has to prove he can stay healthy - and then maybe he's a winger. Hage is 2 years from the NHL @ minimum and no one knows his ceiling.

ps the Demidov / Celebrini argument is ridiculous imo. Celebrini is already in the better league and dominating...he also plays the premium position.
This doesn't need to be a pissing contest. Both can be terrific players and the dude in the NHL imo, is further ahead

I'm not comparing anything, I know the NHL is much better then the KHL, I was just pointing out his coach is a jackass cause if you play him he's over a ppg and if they put him on the PP like they are now that they lost their leading scorer for the season, he could be leading the KHL in points despite just turning 19 last month.

There is no elite talent in the draft this year we're better off just picking twice. Demidov is a couple tiers above any prospect in the 2025 draft.

You can easily compare what Demidov is doing in the KHL with other Russian stars (Kucherov, Kaprizov etc.) from their time in the same league, and I wouldn't consider those guys something shittier than apples...

All of the "bad" teams right now are trying to get better with their current players (instead of tanking) so I'm 70% sure they'd swap the 1st overall for Demidov given that he's one year of development ahead of whoever's getting drafted this year. But I also think teams are more likely to keep the 2025 1st overall instead of trading it for, say, Juraj Slafkovsky.

Sometimes you get a good "bargain" at 5th overall and sometimes you get a lottery win in a weaker draft. Who cares.

I'll play along. So the highest value forward in the draft is either Hagens, Misa, and Martone from NA and Eklund, Frondell, and Ryabkin from Intl...according to NHL.com/Central Scouting.

Is Demidov better than them. I would say yes, because he is putting up almost PPG numbers in the KHL as a D+1, which is pretty amazing.

The closest player I might consider trading him for, would be Shaefer. But the Habs need more in the forward department, going forward, than on defense. They have Guhle, Hutson, Mailloux, Reinbacher, and Engstrom already either on the team or in the near-future pipeline. While Shaefer probably is better than all but Hutson, in terms of skill/potential, Montreal probably needs to start adding to its forward depth with a lot of veteran players set to have contracts expire over the next 3 years.

So in a vacuum, skill-wise and in potential, I would probably value Shaefer over Demidov. But in terms of how the team is being constructed, I would say that Montreal should keep Demidov over Shaefer.
