Prospect Info: Ivan Demidov (2024 5th OA): SKA St. Petersburg (KHL)

Thanks for that.

I was just reading off the bar chart. I actually don't take those "fancy stats" too seriously , in part because I'm actually trained to use statistics on a professional setting.

The bar chart above says that Mitckov has better passing that Demidov. That could be due to a lot of things, among them:
- statistical fluctuations, notice there are no errors bars which demonstrates the ignorance of the person that made the chart.
- Mitckov had better shooters to pass to (I don't know).
- the person that made the chart has an error in his code (that's extremely common).
- Mitckov likes to admire his passes whereas Demidov will shoot if he can.
- etc.

I have not watched either of them. But it's clear that the preponderance of expert opinion expects Demidov to be a tier level better.

I should have included a caveat that I don't take the bar chart too seriously.
I think the better passing stats for Michkov are due to his better shot. He can draw defenders closer to him which opens up lanes. But having watched both, I do believe Demidov has the better actual passing ability. There’s more flair and creativity.

Think of Lane Hutson. He’s an excellent passer, the best on our team. But imagine if he had a great shot and the additional opportunities that would present him on the ice.

I like the shade of red on their away jersey. It reminds me of the 06-07 third jersey. I like how the red pops.

Never been so let down by the brevity of a video, even if that play -- apart from looking like he could really get slew-footed in the NHL -- shows a lot of skill against what might be a really bad KHL D, for all we know.

It looked like the start to something good that just stopped.

But, yes, welcome home, Ivan!

I really hope all that talent translates to the NHL without Demidov making himself open to knee injuries from his 10-2 skating style.
Ye it was my first vid ever made, so just a fun short vid to try out the features and to get an experience of how a such vid can be edited from start to finish.

My next vid though.. the Laine-vid.. you can expect a banger!

What I loved the most about Demidov's description of his play in the KHL was when he said that he doesn't watch a whole lot of videos on individual players because he considers that most teams and players end up playing pretty much the same way, in the end and he just reads what is open in front of him at any given time and just reacts by instinct to make plays.

Much prefer something fluid like that to a player with three tricks he tries to pull off repeatedly like Subban did as a Hab.

It just means that Demidov will be unpredictable and able to adapt, as St-Louis loves to say, Play the game that's in front of him and play his game, inside the game."

Loving this kid who also seems to have a great deal of 'humble' in him to go along with his sky-high confidence.

The same could be said for Demidov, yet Hab fans are already crowning him the next elite superstar of the organization.

It’s more than reasonable to assume Michkov will outperform Caufield in the future. Never has CC outdone Michkov at the same age.
I mean a 24 y.o. CC can’t even make Team USA. Lol

Of course nothing is given, but (just as it is for Demidov) it’s all about reasonable projection.

I agree that Michkov has higher potential and will likely surpass Caufield, but the argument about Team USA is weak. Caufield absolutely deserved a spot on the team. Team USA’s poor decision-making—choosing a player like Kreider, who has fewer points than Caufield has goals—is a failure on USA management, not on Caufield.

Is it just me or I am a bit angry with our management? Weird I know. But how could they have not tried their best to trade up in trying to secure him at 2nd, 3rd or even at 4th overall. Trade our other 1st or multiple 2nd or whatever.
I know we got VERY lucky to get him at 5th overall but talent like him are so rare and he is a franchise defining type of talent. In the end we got our guy (thank god) but we should IMO do better in securing him instead of praying that he drops at our rank. I hope we are more agressive in securing the player we want in the future. Quality > Quantity

I can’t remember if it was Jeff Marek, but someone in the media was very connected to the order of the Top-5 in the draft. There’s a very good chance Hughes & Co were very confident Demidov would still be there.
