Agreed.

And Kostitsyn was trending well until a concussion in the 2009 season. Afterwards he never recovered.

A lot of posters underestimate the impact of injuries on development, for example we see posts saying that Juulsen was a bad pick.
I think Juulsen was always a fringe prospect. He was a decent pick for where he was selected and he did have some bad luck. I’m not convinced that with a bunch of Goodluck things would’ve been much different. He just didn’t have the upside imo.

I don't know honestly, but I think when players suffered tremendous injuries in key development years they should be excluded from the good pick / bad pick decision because we can't know.

Juulsen might be the most obvious example, but there are several.

We shouldn't talk tbh,

That still looks better than the Broccoli cut that is popular with zoomers in North America..

The worst is the garbage bag top knot.

so weird , I was never a Catton fan, still not. Also look how many prospects the Captials have on that list, they know how to draft for sure

I was gonna say that regarding the Capitals. Their drafting has been insane the last few drafts.

Ryan Leonard
Andrew Cristall
Terik Parascak
Cole Hutson
Ilya Protas

I also like Petr Sikora who they picked in the 7th round last draft and Cam Allen who they picked int he 5th round of the 2023 draft.

Anyways, good to see Demidov easily at the top of the list.

I would've been all over Protas.

Yeah my dream scenario is the Habs having Leonard/Demidov in the pipeline. Some good prospects in that organization

They would have had to pick him with the Koivu pick, but I get why they picked Koivu.

Anyways, with these great draft picks, Washington is actually "rebuilding" while they're competing. They may never actually need to pick very high to set themselves up for the future.

Yeah, I liked the Koivu pick too but definitely had a lot of time for Protas going into that draft.

I think they'll still bottom out a bit here but they'll be kind of like where Montreal was when we started our rebuild, some pieces already in the pipeline developing, some young roster players already kind of established with room to grow, and then bottom out for a few years to get some more high value picks onto the roster.

They're a mirage team this year but I'm happy about it since I've wanted to see Ovechkin break Gretzky's record, the only sad part is Don Cherry isn't on Coaches Corner anymore so I can watch him die inside the moment it happens.

That’s fair. I was never very high on him.
