I wonder what line MSL will start Demidov on.
MSL has fairly consistently taken a cautious approach with the young guys and taken it slow. With Huston that meant being on the 2nd/3rd pairing alongside Savard and 2nd PP unit. Once he showed he could handle things he would be given more responsibility, once he could handle that more responsibility, and that process is or at least would've continued if not for the Guhle injury. I would expect something similar with Demidov, 2nd possibly even 3rd line if we go big name hunting during the offseason moves, and PP2 to start and then quickly given more and more responsibility as Demidov shows he can handle it.

I would imagine the ultimate goal is to spread the offence among multiple lines, so chemistry will probably determine whether he ultimately ends up the 1st or 2nd line. But the line numbers are likely to be a meaningless distinction in the same way that Evans technically being the 4th line center is meaningless given his usage is that of 3rd line center. Demidov end up being used as a 1st liner even if he's on the 2nd line, you can think of P. Kane in Chicago's hey days, he was often playing on the 2nd line and Toews was on line 1 because they wanted to spread the offence around.

Nothing more upsetting to a team than handing out unmerited minutes to a rookie, he can earn his minutes like everyone else. Given his skill and apparent drive it should not take long.

Given his skill and apparent drive and impact, he "merited" more ice time far earlier this season... Rottenberg didnt limit Demidov's ice time because he didnt earn them.

while i agree that the best run high performance programs have clear standards and heavily weight adherence to them in dishing out play time, the meritocracy narrative is grossly exaggerated. Its nice in theory, but in practice managing a professional roster is far more nuanced. Contract status, veteran status, team objectives, coach preferences are all variables at play.

The discussion was not about how he was treated in Russia but how the Hab's should treat him.

So, Demidov being on the 3rd line should last less than one period,IMO.

Yeah, why wouldn't he? 2nd line and 2nd PP unit. It won't be long until he's on the de facto first line.
Focusing on so-called line numbers is superficial and unimportant. Not playing Demidov against the opponents' best players, right out of the gate, is actually a smart way of integrating the Russian player into the NHL and increasing the odds of fuelling his confidence level.

Is it a punishment, or a disservice to play him on a 2nd line with Dach and Laine, let's say? Absolutely not! Having a better more established 2nd line C wouldn't hurt, mind you, but the level of talent on that line would still provide Demidov with a means of expressing his talent.

It wouldn't be like playing Demidov with Dvorak and Pezzetta, let's say.

What's the news on Gritsyuk? Ive only started watching him this year, but as a 23yo he reminds me of Heinman stylistically.

Should have been drafted by us, easy player to like in his draft year. Probably plays 3rd line. If we sold Evans to the Devils, he'd be a must. Though i don't see the devils moving him.
