Out of curiosity (please educate me) how can an ELC be ~$4.5m?

Maybe im missing something, but i thout ELC for top tier players was ~$1M/Yr x 3.

Im not a fan of Pionk, so if i had my choice I'd go after Ekblad to hold the RHD spot until RB is ready (which he currently is not).
I think it's clear Mailloux will be dealt. So that means either RB is a #1-3, and we will have no idea until next year.
If we want to capitalize on our youth balance, we're going to need a star RHD defender to hold the fort for 3 years. If we can trade for that #2C our lineup becomes quite scary good.

CC - Suz - Slaf
Laine - UFA - Demidov
Heinman - Hage - Dach
Xhekaj- Beck - Tuch

Guhle - (Ekblad)
Hutson - Reinbacher
Xhekaj - Carrier

Dobes
Fowler

This imo is a SC contender (assuming the 2c would be legit)

Therefore all other assets should be considered to prepare for this:
Roster Trade fodder:
Evans
Monty
Armia
Matheson
Anderson
Dvo
Newhook
Struble
Savard

AHL Depth trade fodder:
Kapanen
Mailloux
Roy
Engstrom
Mesar

Give something to lose:
Gally
Pez

Draft picks this year and next...

The rebuild is over this summer. Starting next season i expect a rookie contender. Anything less would be pathetic.
In the year Demidov was drafted, with full bonuses, assuming he is Da Bomb and produces accordingly out of the gates, he could earn that kind of money and ding the team with that kind of Cap hit.

The base salary X 3 will not be the case for demidov, in my opinion. Afterwards, it's only his production that will make the salary and Cap hit range anywhere from the base salary to around 4.65M.

I thought ELCs could only reach 3 million.
Nope

The rebuild draft phase is, for the most part, over after the 2025 draft, even if we can and should still look to add 1sr round pickle in future drafts by moving valuable veterans that have become redundant.

For example, with the progression of Reinbacher and either a trade for a top-4 RHD (a Rasmus Andersson type) or the signing of a UFA RHD (I'd go for Ceci, personally, as a medium term -- 5 years right through his 35th birthday since he's 31 -- shutdown pairing partner with size, a heavy shot from the point and decent puck-moving skills, combined with a manageable Cap hit to play with Hutson), matheson could be hawked at next year,s trade deadline for another late first round pick.

Reinbacher should be ready to play in the NHL by the trade deadline, if all goes well. If not, Carrier can keep occupying a top-4 role.

Beyond that, Having Hutson around 8M and keeping the other three top-4 Ds under 6M will go a long ways towards aligning a deep and skilled playoff contender.

If Habs make the playoffs he could become the second player in NHL history to win the Conn Smythe trophy before winning the Calder trophy.

Wow!! And that can bring a rookie up to $4.5m?

Is there a recent rookie who got this type of payment?
ELC bonuses apply to the same season or, absent cap space, to the following season as a cap penalty.

According to this, it seems the maximum theoretical cap hit of a rookie on an ELC is 1+1+2.5m

this is funny coming from you, Bedard was tought as Generational so if Michkov is 1b then you thought he was generational too... so IF DEMIDOV IS CLEARLY BETTER THAN 1B... HE MUST BE CLEARLY BETTER THAN 1A ... SO YOU"RE SAYING HE IS CLEARLY ABOVE GENERATIONAL LEVEL

why do people like turning around the bush so much here???

CALL A SPADE A SPADE

MANNNNNNNNN....
How do you think Demidov compares to Mesar?

The spin pass while being checked along the board before his goal was ridiculous.
Yeah it's like doing three things simultaneously in your head to pull that play off. First thing is to execute the clean pass the second thing is to get to the net but that third thing WoW the spin move was the only way to execute both without pausing.
