That's one of the reasons I think MSL is such a good fit for a young, developing team. And he's improving as a coach as well, he was as green as you could get when we hired him. You get the sense this team would go through a wall for him.

2019 Caufield (who was getting ruined by Mumbles) is an emerging star. Struble will likely have a good long NHL career. RHP and Pitlick at least made the show.
2020 Kaiden Ghule is developing really nicely and looks even better since going back to the left side. Still have to wait on Tuch and Dobes but both are promising and Dobes might even win the starter's job.
2021 is a little early but Maillioux has potential and Roy looks like a steal for where we got him.
Compare that to the black hole during MB's tenure. It looks a lot more like the stretch we had before MB got here when we drafted guys like Subban, Price, McDonnaugh...
Development matters. By now that should be abundantly clear. Our whole team has progressed really well. I expect that as guys like Demidov and Hage come in, they'll continue that trend. MSL was an offensive star himself. It's nice to have that perspective behind the bench. It's only going to help a guy like Demidov to learn from him.

Lemaire ran Lafleur out of town long before he should've retired. Jean Perron was a joke. Pat Burns was a very gruff dude. Demers had a reputation for catering to stars but wasn't great with kids....
Now we've got somebody who knows what it takes to be a scoring star in this league. That's only going to help offensive guys like Caufield and Demidov. MB didn't understand this. He was a grinder and tried to build with grinders. I mean, we passed up on Jagr for Pete's sake. And even when he traded for Vanek his coach played him on the 4th line...
The thing I'm interested in seeing is: who's on the first PP? Demidov will eventually be there. So that means somebody goes down. I'm guessing it will wind up being Slaf.
