When we picked him I screamed so loud in my office people came to check on me and then I left for the day

Still riding that high

When Cam Robinson tweeted the buzz was Demidov dropping to 5.. Wheeler hit the early morning news with Sennecke to Ducks at 3.. and Marek reported the top 5 with Demidov to Montreal.. I couldn't believe it.

When the pick finally happened, I leapt in the air and yelled so loudly from my sofa.

Getting Hage 15 picks later was icing on the cake.

Celine took her good ol' time too...

She has a flair for the dramatic but I wanted to chew my fingers off the entire time.

Points per 60.

Our boy might finish the year at a point per game average if they just give him normal amounts of ice time between now and the end of the year. Imagine his point totals if they played him earlier in the year? Would’ve had an all timer type of season as a U-20.
Yeah that’s what annoys me, feels like Demidov (and us?) were robbed of a record breaking KHL season because he wasn’t given consistent ice time since the start.

Hit me but I would not trade Demidov vs Mcdavid 1 vs 1 NOW.

Don't get me wrong Mcdavid is a lot better ....I mean a generational player but he is 28.

In 3 or 4 years he will be past his prime. He will still be good but hIs speed will declIne a little.
.

Like Crosby at 32 he was still good but not like the beast that he was pre-concussion at 23..

Demidov at 19....jeez I would never trade him for a 28 years old Mcdavid or a soon 30 years old Mackinnon.when we know that Ivan will be awesome for us for the next 12-15 years or so.

Main board is taking so my Habs related Ls lately.

Remember when it was sacrilege to even suggest he could be on the same tier as "other" Russian prospects who beat the U20 point records.

He would have torched the record if not for all those games with 11 minutes or less on the bottom lines.
Before the draft the vids I saw on Michkov didn’t get me that excited. I did see he was of the opportunist stripe.

But the first time I saw Demidov I knew 100% that that kind of player wouldn’t fall to where we were gonna finish. I figured he was a lock for #2 and didn’t want to waste time watching this stud anymore lol.

Why Michkov would have significantly more cache is mystifying. I would be beyond shocked if Michkov is the better player.

I heard a rumor saying Demidov was not our pick. Molson would not allow a russian to be drafted in the1st rond. We were supposed to draft Jett Luchanko. But Céline being a habs fan she decided to rectify the situation and she said Ivan Demidoff and after that there was no turning back. :sarcasm:

Totally agree. I wouldn't consider myself some expert scout by any means but I like to watch as much material about the top players pre-draft as I can, especially when we have top picks.

Demidov just popped on the screen, you could see the intelligence paired with elite puck skills but even better was a guy who didn't cheat on defense at all. Just a perfect all around player. The noise was all about how the MHL was a terrible league and how he'd never be able to use anything he was doing at the VHL or KHL levels and blah blah blah.

There was never a moment I ever thought Demidov wasn't going to be better than Michkov, and to me it was obvious. It still isn't obvious to many people apparently but our boy is a whole tier above Michkov, many even 2 tiers. He's that good, it's outrageous.

It's never been more exciting to be a Habs fan in my lifetime that's for sure.

SKA conceded 137 goals in 45 games. That is a huge amount of goals. Seems like something in their game fails almost always. Leading Lokomotiv conceded 78 goals in 46 games. I don't think de Angelo was the only problem in their core.

Trying not to get too excited about him until I see him in the NHL but I can't remember ever thinking we had a prospect with this kind of upside.
