Prospect Info: Ivan Demidov (2024 5th OA): SKA St. Petersburg (KHL): Part II

I watched him all season and the kid is as good as advertised. Even when playing with limited minutes, he stood out more often than not.

Despite the inept coach behind the bench, this was a positive experience for Demidov, playing with/ vs pros at 18/19 yrs old.

Don't really care if he plays a minute more, just counting the days till he joins the Habs.

Then what’s all the consternation about Demidov’s playing time and usage?

You think Hughes and Co. are happy?

All businesses and enterprises seek certainty in their operations. What’s happening in SKA is far from certain.

All I can say is at the next draft, if there are two players, one from the CHL and one from Russia who are equal in talent , every GM is taking the player from the CHL. They don’t want the drama. That in essence is the Russian factor. The very chance that your draft choice may be delayed in coming to North America is a deterring factor. And its not going to change in the near future.

There's no Russian drama. It's all Rottenturd.

Once the GMs see Demidov and Michkov, coming in early and dominating, the opposite might happen. They won't wanna pass on talent anymore.

Could you not say the same for any player in Europe? GM's will always take the CHLer.

The essence of the 'Russian factor' is the KHL offers a lucrative alternative to the NHL/AHL. Russian players have more options and leverage at their disposal en route to the NHL..

But the best Russians will always go to the NHL. GM's just need to have patience. But NHL GM's dont like this. They want immediate control....and/or fall prey to outdated thinking.

Obviously that's true, and not only that it's *always* been true. GMs have been choosing North Americans over equally skilled Euro players for decades. To watch this board try to pretend like Demidov's situation changes things is ridiculous. It's just judgement being clouded by outrage.

I wouldn't call it russophobia as much as I would just say there is a natural heavy bias towards North American views as being the 'good' views. Russia's opinion on things are disregarded as much here as on the world stage in the minds of many.

Despite the limited time in the ice. He still played a full season with out any injury. He need to hit the gym this summer and he will be NHl ready for next season.

Or early dismissal. You screw up a top 5 pick and your career options narrow.

I love people here who expect GMs to exercise patience. This isn’t a video game. It’s the real world and if your team isn’t progressing, you’re out the door. If its your job on the line you aren’t taking risks that can come back and bite you in the ass.
