You’re missing my point. Michkov and Demidov didn’t drop in their respective draft years because of the colour of their hair. The Russian factor played a role. If you think SKA’s treatment of Demidov has been exemplary, you’re being willfully blind.

Demidov’s success has been despite this regressive handling.
You call it a fiasco -- a failure. His season has not been a failure whatsoever. Anyone drafting talent out of Russia has to accept they do not have a way to exert control over the player's development for the remaining duration of his contract. Calling it a fiasco is a bit hysterical.

Hughes and his entourage visited Demidov multiple times and successfully convinced him to not extend his KHL contract: Everything has worked out as desired for PHI and MTL with respect to their KHL prospects Michkov and Demidov. Michkov has 51pts and counting in his rookie season and Demidov is poised to make a big splash next year for the Habs.

The Russia(n) factor is definitely a factor in the value-rankings of prospects... as is the Height factor, the Toughness factor, the Handness factor, the Position factor, the NCAA factor, the US Patriot/Tax Hyper-Sensitive factor, and the Averse To Weather factor, etc.
Other teams will notice and act, whether wisely or otherwise, accordingly, in the future.
Any team that would not pick Demidov or Michkov on account of the Russia(n) factor would be most unwise indeed.

I think it will be about halfway through his rookie season, but I also think we are going to resign Laine. Not everyone in your top 6 will be good offensively and Defensively.

If Laine is your 4th-5th best forward your in pretty good shape.
Agreed. As long as he takes a slight pay cut. He isn't worth what he is currently getting paid. Needs more than the shot to earn that kind of money.

As early as 2026/27 we could see......

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Laine - Hage - Demidov
Heinemen - Dach - Newhook
Xhekaj - Evans - Anderson
Gally/Beck

.my guess is he comes in a little under the top line in the 7.25-7.5 range.

You do realize Demidov has more accumulated ice-time than any forward playing in the NCAA, right? And he's developing under the tutelage of Carolina's development coach, with NHL level resources in St. Petersburg, playing and practicing against ex-NHLers.

It's been a great year developmentally despite RoRo's questionable game usage.

The primary reason a 'Russian factor' exists is because most NHL GM's are dinosaurs; conservative and old school in their thinking.

The primary reason is actually due to the lack of an appropriate transfer agreement between the leagues. The only other check and balance on the transfer of players is participation in international play which, sigh, has been suspended.

SKA with 2 PP... it's fishy.

And a 3rd PP in a row to SKA, yeah sure....

Then what’s all the consternation about Demidov’s playing time and usage?

You think Hughes and Co. are happy?

All businesses and enterprises seek certainty in their operations. What’s happening in SKA is far from certain.

All I can say is at the next draft, if there are two players, one from the CHL and one from Russia who are equal in talent , every GM is taking the player from the CHL. They don’t want the drama. That in essence is the Russian factor. The very chance that your draft choice may be delayed in coming to North America is a deterring factor. And its not going to change in the near future.

The Demidov situation is a ‘perfect’ example of the Russian factor that gives most drafting teams some pause/ concern in their NHL draft decision making.
They’re concerned that players might break KHL scoring records while getting so-so playing time? Yeah I don’t think that’s it tbh
