Prospect Info: Ivan Demidov (2024 5th OA): SKA St. Petersburg (KHL): Part II

Either way if SKA allows it, you bring him over now and burn the year. They have done it with everyone else pretty much. Bring this kid into the fold as soon as you can.
Something about not playing with fire.

I have no edit function. I may have a lot of truncated posts until it’s resolved.

I was going to say that @jaffy27 used to fly near Russia, he might be in a good position to land an authentic jersey. @jaffy27 if you do, please post a pic.

Elliotte Friedman, on Ivan Demidov signing with the Canadiens after his season with SKA ended [and starting this season in the NHL]:

It seems like the Montreal Canadiens are hopeful.

They're obviously pushing hard to make it happen.

I know several people who went to see him play this year and say he's a real talent.

He's as good as advertised.

They understand why the Canadiens and their fans are so excited to have him."

I saw this posted on twitter and on here a few times. But in the question Friedman is responding to was can they expect to see him over here next season. He also said other comments about how usually the NHL respects KHL contracts. When you listen to the 32-thoughts podcast closely nothing Friedman says gives an indication this will happen this year.

Fake news, from a website that tries to get clicks and views. You should never trust that place.

As for Demidov, this is the first time this year where it feels like he is off. I wonder if he's gotten really tired of the way he's being treated and it did finally impact his play. Hopefully that's the case and he gets out of there as soon as possible.

With it being more clear that he won't sign an extension with SKA, I don't expect Demidov will get much in the final two games from his coach and possible even in the playoffs.

You look at Canes' prospect Nikishin, who also plays for SKA. His minutes are unaffected even though he's also free after this year and has let them know he plans to sign with the Canes once his contract is up. In fact, I read somewhere that SKA has agreed to release him if their season ends early.

Why I think both cases are different? Because Nikishin had already extended a contract to stay in Russia after he was drafted in 2020. So he's already proven himself "loyal" to stay in the KHL, so they're not "punishing" him and even willing to let him go early. Unlike Demidov, who on his first opportunity, he lets them know for him it's NHL over KHL.

It was the same with Romanov. As soon as his KHL deal was up, he let them know he will go to the NHL. So his minutes were greatly diminished when it was clear he wouldn't stay in Russia.

It's a hypothesis I have. I could be wrong. But I wouldn't put it past the KHL teams to "punish" those who want to leave at the earliest possible chance while those who have extended contracts to stay will be treated like a regular.

I normally don’t listen to 32 Thoughts, it takes the hosts forever to get to a point, if there is even one. Bakauskas is particularly brutal. Only listened to the part where Friedman discusses Demidov — saying that the Habs are hopeful is not insider info.

The idea is that if he's not signing and they are eliminated, that they'd give us grace and release him early.

Demidov is the type of prospect you introduce if you can. The capital will not hesitate to use Leonard.

We dropped Caufield in when we went to the cup finals.
That would be the only scenario where he could realistically make an appearance this year…hopefully the Habs brass left a good impression and good vibes when they went and saw Demidov earlier this year.

I’m sure there would be a price, TBD

What about an authentic jersey? @jaffy27
My wife is there right now…I’ll get her to check “Wildberries” (it’s like their Amazon) and see if she can purchase on there if not I’ll try to order one from their site and ship it to Minsk….shouldn’t be an issue and if it works out I’ll take some orders from our crazy fans 😁

Demidov is still showing glimpses of skill, but he looks tired. And he still has the playoffs to go through.

Not sure how much he would help Montreal in the playoffs (if he in fact is released), but it would be a nice good-will gesture to get him under contract this year.

With how little game time he's actually played this year, gotta wonder if the apparent fatigue is more mental (at dealing with his bonehead coach) than anything else...

Very true, and then there's also the adrenaline factor that comes with starting to fulfill your dream of playing in the NHL. If he does come over and play he'll be riding high and full of energy.
