Prospect Info: Ivan Demidov (2024 5th OA): SKA St. Petersburg (KHL): Part II

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

Well now comes the challenge of getting himself out of a slump. I'd rather he learn how to do that at the KHL level than in Montreal when you are claimed to be a bust the second you don't produce in a game as a rookie.

Haha know you are joking but hes gonna get waived next camp, bet on it.
Yeah. He is gone this summer. No need to waive him. With Demidov coming in, Dach coming back from injury. Roy and Beck pushing for a NHL spot. His hockey career is kinda over with us and maybe in NHL.

Bedard was never deemed as "Generational" to the vast majority of general managers and their scouts. He was always viewed a notch below the McDavid's and Crosby's. Franchise player, yes.....generational, no.

He was hyped pretty hard. I equate his hype to Joe Thornton level.

Mcdavid and Crosby hype was in another tier. That was like Mario, and lindros level.

Nobody is talking about it but do you guys think Hugo will try to find a Russian UFA to sign here and mentor Demidov and help him to transition to the NHL? If he is the next Habs superstar, it's something I would consider
It's been discussed...

In theory, it could be a good idea.

In reality.... it would take far more than shared nationality/language for there to be a positive impact

Try to convince Malkin for a year.

There’s never been a more hyped up player than Bedard.

Crosby was really huge, alot bigger than McDavid but nothing comes close to Bedard’s hype.

With his swagger, confidence, personality and skillset I don't think it'll be necessary.

Ivan Barbashev could be an interesting target. Don't know why he would be available but Vegas is always tinkering...

I think it's something that would be nice to have as opposed to a necessity. So I wouldn't bend over backwards for it.

But I do recall when markov came over, petrov was helping him out here. Markov didn't speak a word of english as far as I recall though.

PJ Stock had a fantastic story on Markov that he told on 690 years ago. Essentially the Habs were doing a team building activity in training camp where they played soccer. Everyone was paired up, 1 guy blindfolded and 2 guy giving instructions. Only the blindfolded guy can touch the ball. So of course PJ gets blindfolded and paired with rookie Markov, who speaks no English. With no instructions, PJ ran into someone and broke his own nose. To hear him tell the story, Alain Vigneault was disgusted and said something along the lines of "this is the tough guy they got me?" and never gave PJ a chance - he played all of 20 games before being traded.

Guys like Karprizov, Michkov and Romanov have come over from Russia in recent years and have transitioned well without any Russian teammates. I think it helps that Demidov can understand and speak English pretty well which makes it not a necessity to have a Russian mentor.

If we could add a Russian that could improve the lineup it would be great, but if not I think we have a good group of young leaders than can help Demidov transition.

Crosby was really huge, alot bigger than McDavid but nothing comes close to Bedard’s hype.

Hard disagree. The Crosby hype vastly surpassed Bedard's due to a mix of his pedigree and the circumstances. I don't think we'll see Crosby level hype again. It was the lockout year and it resulted in the biggest draft lottery every drawn. Add to that the fact that he joined Lemieux's Penguins, creating a passing of the guard narrative between generational talents.

Bedard was always seen as a lesser prospect than McDavid. McDavid's speed is something the hockey world had truly never seen, and it turns out that it is the most game-breaking skill of any player in the current era.

Bedard oozes skill but he remains an undersized, one-dimensional forward. That was the case before the draft and is still the case today. Neither Crosby or McDavid had such a knock.

Crosby's hype was insane.
