I would not. Seeing that Bedard is not capable of carrying a team, without the commitment at both ends of the ice doesn't make you better off. Demidov may actually be able to do that (even if it remains to be seen), but I would wager that Demidov will flourish in this market under the pressure, where I would have some doubts about Bedard.

Come on, put Chicago is almost a AHL caliber team.. Can’t ask a 19 years old kid to carry that weak line up..

Ask anybody who’s not a Habs fans and they will take Bedard before Demidov without hesitation

Ivan Demidov is a true 1st overall talent for a lot of draft, for sure.

When a KHL player said that Demidov is better than Kaprizov (speak about vision and 1v1) that speak a lot!!

Hot take, in going through every draft since 2010, here are the drafts I would take him 1st OA instead of who actually went 1OA:

2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019 (debatable), 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2025

Many draft years are still highly debatable, including the last two, because we just don't know how good he will be, maybe even 2016. He could be more than what you or I or anyone else thinks, and he could also be less.

I'm not using hindsight for those. At the time of draft eligibility, I'm saying I'd take demidov over all those players. (I was extremely high on demidov the entire time and went as far as to say he was better than michkovs last year)

From what I've been tell, Bedard has a hell of a shitty attitude. They would need to bring some bodies. I wouldnt be surprised to see a trade with Montreal to bring Joshua Roy or one with Pittsburgh for Tanner Howe.

Yup. Recency bias and we're comparing a kid in the NHL to a kid in the KHL which is apples to oranges.

Teams stripped down to the studs to try to get a chance to draft Bedard.

I didn't say I would not take Demidov over Bedard in a draft, if both were in the same draft. I am saying after watching Bedard this year I find him underwhelming for an exceptional player he was expected to be. Poor team aside, a player of his caliber (perceived caliber?) I would expect that intermittently he would take over a game with his skills/vision. Maybe he doesn't like the direction & decisions his team is making & it is affecting his play commitment to defence. Coaches changed this year too. It would seem to me that drive is a little lacking right now hence I would not trade him even up for Demidov without knowing what Demidov can do in this league under ST Louis. Heck, this is the Demidov thread isn't it, and I am damn excited to have a player of his skillset joining next year!

That's a tough one. For it to be fair, I'd have to see Demidov in the NHL for one year. Celebrini is almost PPG as a rookie and he is a center (which we could really use).

I might be tempted to take Celebrini if there was an offer on the table right now, but I'd be worried that Demidov ends up burning the league.

Those people would take Bedard because of the generational tag he had, I don’t think that would be based on his play right now. Not that he’s playing bad by any means, though.

All of Crosby, Ovechkin, and McDavids' teams finished last in their respective divisions in their rookie season and they still dominated. The year after each made the playoffs. Now I'll give Bedard a pass on the team aspect because Chicago is early in the rebuild where those teams were a bit deeper but he's not generational. I felt like a crazy person for a few years when I tried to tell everyone. He'll probably be the Patty Kane of this generation essentially.

Bedard was never deemed as "Generational" to the vast majority of general managers and their scouts. He was always viewed a notch below the McDavid's and Crosby's. Franchise player, yes.....generational, no.
