Namestnikov as our Coleman (versatile high energy two-way top 9)
Aston-Reese as our Goodrow (strong defensive bottom 6)
Aston-Reese as our Goodrow (strong defensive bottom 6)
That's the hope.Well that's better than normal when we would be preparing to face the Bruins/TB in the opening round. Hopefully if we get through the north we have some swagger going into the 3rd round.
Can Thornton use it too? or borrow Spezza's?A time machine for Tavares.
Everyone? Or just haters on the main boards?
OK so based on that, maybe not "much" tougher in the case of TB, admittedly I just had a quick look at the divisions, not the schedules to this point.
I will point out though that you posted the schedule for TB so far, is that because Boston's schedule has indeed been "much" tougher? At least it seems much tougher with 8 games so far against PIT/PHI/WSH, then 1 vs NYI and 2 vs NJ.
Honestly, I have watched so many Vancouver games the last couple years. He does not play physical despite his size, he is dumb as rocks, and has no compete level. Think William Nylander minus all of Willy's skill. If there is a bad play, bad change, bad penalty, bad read to be made, Jake will find it.The more I think about it, the more I would take a look at Virtanen.
If Vancouver is going to sell low on him it is worth the risk.
18 goals last year, hit the post 7 times and the crossbar 5 times, so he was close to 20-22 goals in 70 games.
He is pretty physical, and always has more takeaways than giveaways.
With Thornton, Spezz, Tavares,Simmonds and Bogosian I think there is enough leadership here to help keep him focused and get his work ethic up
Either they need a new system for the PK, or at least one solid PKer to add to who they have. I agree regarding Kerfoot and Vesey. As for Mikeyev, I hope we keep him and play him on the third line, unless he can start finishing, then I’d have him on the Tavares line.I have resisted doing this thread for a while but they are 10-2-1 now, they are 1st overall in the NHL and they are 6 points up on everybody in the North except Montreal and even then they are 3 points up so nobody is within a game of catching them.
So now we need to have a conversation, what does this team need to put themselves over the top?
This feels like the year to go for it it feels like if they can add a piece or 2 they can do it, and there are pieces in this lineup I think can be replaced.
Guys like Kerfoot, I know Kerfoot had a goal and that's great but has 2 and he makes to many mistakes between all his penalities and the mistake he made last night that let Vancouver tie ir he can go.
Vesey, he's got 2 goals and he only makes 900K but you know what? 900K at the deadline gets you Rakell or Palmeri and yes this team needs a top 9 forward.
Engvall there simply isn't a spot for him that 1.2 million can be better spent that 1.2 million buyer you David Savard at the deadline, or Palmeri, Radkell, Tanner Pearson.
I think this team can do it but there are guys can be replaced.
Even Mikyehev he's not doing enough when he's out there I think he's a good player but if they couls replace him I'd be OK with that.
So I ask what does this team need to put itself over the top

Oh ya, I am definitely exaggerating for sure. He is definitely more physical than I give him credit for, but its just not the type of output that tilts the ice in his teams favor. His physicality very rarely leads to anything positive. He's not an effective F1, because he doesn't have the motor or footspeed to be the first guy in. In my mind, he has higher hits/60 because he plays without the puck more often than not. I hear what you are saying when it comes to taking a chance on a young kid with high draft pedigree, I just don't see Virtanen being in the NHL more than a couple more seasons personally. Maybe its because I live in the city, and almost from the second Jake was drafted here he was seemingly a reclamation project for the Canucks. Just never seemed to be able to put it all together.I too watch almost every Canuck game.
While I agree with some of what you said, you are exaggerating.
He does come with some baggage, but at 2.5, he can produce enough to warrant that contract.
It is nonsense to say he doesnt play physical, he has a high hit total per 60.
He doesn't lay thunderous checks, but he does get in hard on the forecheck.
He is a low risk/high reward if he figures it out, but I am only pulling the trigger if Van is selling low
Columbus? If any team deserves it Leafs do. They had had brutal playoff matchups. Harder than any team.
I think Simmonds worked fine with willy and JT.
He's good net presence and gritty player who can pass.
Beef up the 3rd line with more scoring touch. I think Thornton will play on the 1st line when he comes back until they get cold and then hyman will be out back on..
So it might be Robertson-thornton-soup as our third wouldn't look bad.
Or Thorton-kerfoot-soup and move Robertson to the 4th to play with Spezza.
Washington, Boston and Boston?Columbus?
MAF has too much term.Somebody mentioned it before, but the said it for next season as a replacement for Andersen. MAF, swap Andersen and MAF for this season. Try and get Vegas to retain about 2 million or more if you can.
Well as Ric Flair said "if you want to be the Man, you've got to beat the Man!"Washington, Boston and Boston?
3 out of 4 were the cup favs
Someone to play with JT-Willie, if Mikheyev finds his offensive touch we might be set! And everything crossed for good injury luck.
Yeah ihe doesn't fit..... really anywhere yetHow long should we wait for Mikheyev ?? I think we know what he is and a top 6 is he is not for me. That line needs a gud pro Hyman type player who can crash and bang.
His contract expires at the end of next year. He has this season and next season on his contract.MAF has too much term.
Yeah ihe doesn't fit..... really anywhere yet
And certainly not on top 2 lines

I don't see the issue with Kerfy others are seeing. Maybe its the phantom penalties angering them? Can't agree with you there. IMO he's been very good on the defensive boards down low, both winning pucks and quickly moving the puck out and into transition, and and is always in good defensive position. I don't think he's as effective as a winger.
