It's time to have the conversation.

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Getzlaf is one of my all time faves and I'm pretty sure he's still legit top-6 material, and would look even better on the wing.

This is precisely my mindset as well.
Although I don’t have the answers as to who could help, I absolutely agree that Vesey and Engvall do nothing to warrant a roster spot.
Soupy and Kerfoot are on the bubble for me, if there is someone out there that can help us, they are also expendable in my opinion.
At the present time, I think the edge goes to Montreal if it comes down to that.
They have better goaltending, better defense and overall more grit for a deep playoff run.

We need a lot more out of our 2nd line.
If any team can totally shut down Mathews and Marner, we are in trouble.
I would look to add a piece to the 2nd and 3rd lines, and a d man with some nastiness.
I agree except for Soup and Kerfoot. Soup is a character guy and plays hardest next to Hyman. He sets an example with his hustle and they will start to go in for him. Kerfoot is quick and in a third line role, I am confident most nights he will clear our zone with his speed and outperform the other teams third line. I wouldn’t trade either of these guys

Palmieri would be a crazy add. He would look so good with Tavares and Willy. Willy needs someone to make plays with Tavares can be pretty choppy at times.

I see that we have progressed to posting these discussions on the trade boards for every player with a pulse. Nice.

I'm excited to add a player, but I draw the line at Sandin and Robertson. They stay, everything else is in play.

I think this addresses a few of our wants, but as always it costs, and is it doable? I would guess it needs to be massaged a bit, but as a foundation? How much might it cost Toronto to get Ottawa to initiate this?

Ottawa to NYR: Dadanov and Gubranson
NYR to Ottawa: Lemieux and DeAngelo
NY gets rid of the idiot, Dadanov may resurface and the Sens take a chance at being able to score. Rangers take on 3.6M more salary but rid themselves of the headache.

Ottawa to Toronto: Lemieux and Tierney
Tor to Ott: Dermott and Kerfoot.
Thinking behind it being Tierney ups the defensive posture at 3C over Kerfoot and Lemieux is given a chance with Tavares and Nylander. Ottawa now has potential at D with Chabot/Zaitsev/Dermott/DeAngelo/Brannstrom/Wolanin. I'd like to get Brown from Ottawa as well, would a 2nd do it? Does Vesey intrigue them with Anisimov on waivers?

Ottawa out: Dadanov, Tierney and Grubranson
Ottawa in: DeAngelo, Dermott, Kerfoot and Vesey?

Rangers out: Lemieux and DeAngelo
Rangers in: Dadanov and Gubranson

Leafs out: Dermott, Kerfoot and Vesey
Leafs in: Tierney and Lemieux

I hope we don't wait until April 12th to make a trade if the player is on an American team. A two week quarantine would have them miss 8 games. If we made the trade on March 12th they would only miss 5 games.

Depending on the player, and their cap hit, when we could pull the trigger is directly tied to cap space. We might be forced to wait as late as possible, or close to.

Perhaps, but we aren't going to accrue much cap space this season with out LTIR use. I think the money in/out will have to be almost identical regardless.

As of today Leafs have $39,452 in free cap space which is about enough maybe to bring in an Accountant to the team. :)

DEADLINE CAP SPACE

: $130,527

Any Leaf trade would have to have equal or > cap money going out to accommodate any new players.

Maybe we can replace our 3rd line with this trio ?
Our best line ever !
Charlie Conacher (left) as well his mates on the Kid Line, Joe Primeau (middle) and Busher Jackson.

Man o man Charlie Conacher was incredible 6’1” 200lb
Must have been a monster in those days !!
Outstanding athlete .

A 3rd line centre like Kadri would be nice.

I kid.

When our forwards are healthy I can't see us needing anyone. Maybe another dman with snarl. Keep accruing cap space and see what we can get at the deadline.

You kid, but I agree fully. A guy like Kadri to replace Kerfoot would be awesome. Not Kadri himself obviously, but a guy that plays a physical, grinding game, but also someone that can score from time to time. I'm just not sold on Kerfoot at all. He does some things well, but when things tighten up, I feel like he becomes invisible.

The Conachers were all big boys. Three hockey hall of famers and Lionel Conacher is arguably the greatest Canadian athlete of all time.

The more I think about it, the more I think the biggest priority is adding another legit top 6 skill player, not toughness or defense.
