GDT: Its Snuggy Season 7PM

My point with there being 29 other teams are that there’s still options.

I’d have to do more research on each roster to give an example that I think could be viable for a swap.

Glancing really quickly, I could see Anaheim being a fit due to their cap space. Would need to be centered around someone like Strome if a direct 1 for 1 or Fowler if Blues want to add to Krug and upgrade D.

I’d be fine with Krug + 25th Overall + a prospect(Bolduc) or a future 2024 pick for Fowler.
This is my magnum opus (even though offer might have been mega steep just to dump Krug).

Army and his Stanley Cup-Winning Magic Board has me eating some delicious crow right now for saying he isn't doing enough. I swear to God the guy made light changes, stood there like the Joker from Dark Knight with a stopwatch and said 'And here... we.... GO!'

And we're in the WC1 spot.

Fuggin GM of the Year if we make the playoffs.

As for everything else, THIS IS THE WAY.

Dvorsky was way more poised with the puck, but Snuggy made a lot of little plays - feints, chips and bumps that are clearly NHL ready. As is his speed.

I’m all aboard running them through hard NHL practices the next few weeks - they both need to figure out ways to compensate for their lack of strength with some battle drills/edge work.

All that being said…It has been awhile since a blue line has dominated us on the walls as much as Det’s just did. We did not play well, but that Detroit blue-line deserves a lot of credit. Tough game for Snuggy to walk into, whereas Dvorsky got Nashville.

Okay but he was extremely close to trading some core pieces. The players deserve the credit for playing more competitive and consistently.

We got something really special here.

I thought dvorsky looked better. Snuggy might have shown some more flashes on offense, but he also looked a lot more confused and unsure where to go on defense while dvorsky seemed less of a liability.
BOTH of them were playing their first NHL game. I think both of them will be average early NHL rookies on defence, after having several practices with their teammates, and playing in more games. Dvorsky played decently on defence in The AHL, and Snuggeruud might have a little more to learn, but he's got good hockey sense, and isa quick learner, and has been known to be a hard worker when it comes to working on his game. I think they'll both do fine. I'm looking forward to both of them having an offseason of weight training before next season. But, I think Snuggeruud, with his speed and shooting skill, can help The Blues in The Playoffs.

Stoking a fire under players is just being a damn good GM. Hell, ain't they supposed to do that? And if they don't want to play here, ship them out and be done with it. Army deserves a ton of credit here. Hell, THE PLAYERS DESERVE CREDIT FOR SUDDENLY DOING THEIR DAMN JOB?!

John Wayne, where are you bro? Ah, John Wayne says YOU DON'T GET A MEDAL FOR DOING YOUR DAMN JOB.

But if you do it and do it right, you MIGHT get your name on a shiny Cup.

I agree Snug got outmuscled but this wasnt some run of the mill game in the dog days of January. Pretty physical game with over 30 hits just in the 1st IIRC. Also a home game on a team goingfor 10 wins in a row in the playoff hunt. Not an easy game to debut in. As some mentioned another game or two since lesser opponents like PIT would be great to acclimate him before the playoffs

If you need a good laugh..... go look at the fowler trade thread when it all went down.

I may or may not have had a few posts that turned out to be absolutely spot on....and caught alot of flack for hahahah.

also snuggy gettin ran from behind on the wall and then losing leverage in one other battle on the wall doesn't mean he's weak and cant compete on the walls. He won a few pucks and made some smart quick plays under pressure out of the zone. Like that area chip to sunny that sprung a 2 on 1 was a high end but low key type play alot of fans don't notice.

Kid's gonna be just fine.

I'm really happy with Snuggy's first game. He's not going to win many NHL board battles with physicality, but his stick was surprisingly good along the boards. He won several board battles by getting to the puck first, and making a quick play on the puck while avoiding contact. And when he didn't arrive first, he did a great job disrupting the opponent's play on the puck with his stick. He'll need to improve the physicality, but I thought the overall board play would be worse.

His defensive zone coverage is passive and uncertain. He did a good job disrupting and closing off lanes when the puck was near him, but he was clearly lost on coverage when the puck was on the other side of the ice and he had to cover open space. Not remotely surprising for a rookie out of the NCAA after a single pro practice. Time will tell whether he just needs to learn the system or if he ne needs to learn how to play NHL-level defense. His defensive positioning in the O zone and neutral zone was much better. The effort was there to.

Loved his play with the puck. He had a number of good passes and was doing a hell of a lot more than just looking to get the puck for a quick shot. He wants to move and rotate on the PP, which is something our PP seems to struggle doing sometimes. His release really snuck up on Talbot on his 1st shot.

All in all, I saw way more pleasant surprises than moments of frustration. I want him back in the lineup Thursday.

*whispers* Calgary lost.

Wow what a game. Man this is so f***ing fun.

Fowler will get a lot of press for his scoring, and rightfully so, but the man was a f***ing machine out there tonight. He played almost 25 minutes and was unstoppable. No one was getting by him, he was breaking out the puck like crazy - I mean honestly, he played the way I remember AP playing - always in the right spot, always taking the puck away from the other team, always beating the forecheck and moving the puck up the ice with surgical efficiency. Take a f***ing bow dude, that was possibly the most clinical game I've seen from a D on our team since AP left.

I liked what I saw from Snuggy. He looks far more NHL ready then Dvo did in his debut. His skating is miles better then Dvo, and his shot certainly was as advertised - that short side bullet almost overpowered Talbot. He needs some more practice time - he was clearly lost on the forecheck and during extended defensive zone time, but I think that will come with reps. I think we should keep him in for Pitt, and possibly even throw Dvo back in as well - it's basically the last game before Utah in our finale where the level of competition isn't completely overwhelming.

Tip of the cap to Detroit, they played us about as well as anyone has over the last month and Talbot was a damn wall. Binner made a ton of huge saves as well, really good game from him.

Excited to see the Pitt game. Man the future looks bright right now.

Oh and one quick Edit - god DAMN did Kyrou blow up Debrincat in OT LOL

I think tonight's game was very eye-opening for Jimmy. I'm more inclined to believe he'll make the big club next year over the AHL, but in either case, he'll benefit from adding about 5-10 pounds of muscle and some real strength-training over the summer.

You know there's magic in the air when Kyrou of all people throws a hit like that. I can't even remember seeing an open ice hit like that in OT. DeBrincat must have been surprised lol.

Solid first game for Snuggerud. As others have mentioned he needs to bulk up and get stronger but that's true of most rookies. Don't think it's fair to compare him and Dvorsky considering he's a year older and we only got a glimpse of each guy. I wonder how either would fare against a really tough opponent like Colorado or Dallas but nice to get their feet wet.

Fowler, since joining the Blues, is on a 16-goal & 55-point pace over 82 games, with excellent decision-making and puck poise. He’s been rejuvenated since getting out of Anaheim, where he was stagnant.

Folks want to give credit, rightfully so, to Army for his offer-sheet moves, Fowler acquisition and decision to stand pat at the TDL, but would those moves be paying off as much if Boston hadn’t fired Montgomery and Bannister was still the bench boss? I think Monty deserves as much credit, if not more, than Army or the players.

Montgomery took a decent, but not obscenely-talented Bruins team to historic heights in a record-setting season and has now turned chicken-shit into chicken salad with a floundering Blues roster that suddenly looks unbeatable. I’m giving Bannister (and Chief) a zero percent chance at engineering a similar turn-around mid-season. The guys have bought in and believe in one another. Monty restored a sense of togetherness and pride…these guys are reaching their full potential, which is the sign of a great coach.

Blues hockey is fun again, and there’s a ton of young talent to infuse into the roster over the next 24-months. The entire org. can take a bow if they can clinch a playoff spot and restore hope for a future Cup-window re-opening.
