Its looking like the wildcard race in the East is going to be exciting

It’ll be interesting to see. All these teams have been real hot and cold so if you get them in a hot streak they’re hard to beat. Ottawa went on a 8-0-1 streak with Ullmark in net before his injury. Montreal won 7 in a row and looked like a playoff team. Tampa looked like world beaters to start the season, same for the Rangers. Detroit had the coach bump.

I think Columbus is the exception here. They win at home and lose on the road consistently.

All this to say… I don’t know if I believe the wildcard teams this year will be easy outs.
Columbus has been much better on the road as of late .. and have been doing all this without Monahan , Jenner , Chinakov … Jenner will be back in a week or so .. Fantilli has taken a huge step with Monahan down .. Also Columbus was beating teams out scoring them .. in the last 12 games they are winning games like they did last night in Vegas 2-1 with great defense and goaltending .

The Jackets are on a 4 game road trip with 1 game in each time zone........that has to be a rarity. Teams play in all of the time zones over a road trip, but for it only to be a 4 game trip seems a lot of travel over 6 days.

Vegas/Utah/Dallas/Buffalo

Yeah. The sens have a much easier schedule in the second half than Columbus. And Columbus had a much easier first half than Ottawa. Especially if you take in home/away and quality of opponents.

Ottawa got most of their road games and games against the best teams out of the way. More home games and games against non playoff teams the rest of the way.

I believe this is the year a really good team that could have done damage in the playoffs will miss out. One key injury to a star player could be the difference.

I'm a Devils fan and I'm even scared that with a slip in form we could be out of it. These wild card teams are cooking.

Also, the Islanders have come out of no where...I thought they were a basement team a few weeks ago.

*good

Let us Islanders fans have something to be happy about even if it makes Boston look like a mess. The Isles went from having the worst special teams to being 2nd to last in the PK. Things are looking up right now.

Someone get this man a parachute
The best I can do is the plastic one that came on those army men toys.

It's crazy how different the wild card races appear to be in the East and West this season. The East is going to be a bloodbath for playoff spots, whereas at the moment, it looks like the West just has one team on the outside realistically looking in.

Wings boasting the longest win streak in the Atlantic and only 8 points back from 1st place while having a game in hand.

That’s a lot of ground to make for the Red Wings to reach Florida. Florida is pacing 99 points this season.

For the Red Wings to finish the season with 99 points they need to have 44 points in 31 games.

They need to go 21-8-2 during that span.

I’d be surprised if they can keep up that pace for much longer. All the teams in the race have gone on hot stretches and have fell back down to earth (Montreal, Ottawa, NYI, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Philly and even Tampa)

Can't speak for the other teams but CBJ are 7-2-1 in their last ten which puts them top 5 in the league over that stretch.

So many teams are having good stretches right now in their last 10:

Ottawa: 7-2-1
Columbus: 7-2-1
Detroit: 6-3-1
Islanders: 8-2-0
Rangers: 6-2-2

And then like I said we’ve seen multiple teams go on hot streaks and then going back down to earth. Unfortunately it doesn’t mean much.

Islanders looked out of the race a month ago now they’re knocking on the door. Pittsburgh was in a playoff spot 5 weeks ago. Rangers started the year 12-4-1. Ottawa won 8 straight then lost 6 straight.

It’s not about who can sprint the fastest, it’s about who can win the marathon. Only the teams that are consistent will make the playoffs.

The Jackets problem this season has been performing on the road. They are 17-5-3 at home this season meanwhile they are 8-14--4 on the road. And that's with most of their injuries, no Monahan, no Jenner, no Chinakov and they haven't had Gudbranson all season.

It'll be interesting to see if they keep up their success once Jenner comes back, he's supposedly traveling with the team on this road trip and will play soon.
