Yes to the first part.

No the the implied part, with the last word there. Like the saying goes if the girl don't want to dance you can't make her...

I didn't imply anything.

I stated a truth. Reaves did nothing. Not for the first time either.

You don't need permission before punching a guy in the face.

I guess you can argue that it was lazy, instead of taking an extra step and extra second to make a better play, he just took an easy way out and it backfired.
Yeah, not a good play for sure.

It would appear that the "particular set of skills" that Reaves brought was standing around like an idiot, losing position, deflecting the puck into his own net, and letting other people fight for him. People that were happy that Robertson was sitting despite 8 points in his last 11 games miss the point. While he's not perfect, his "particular set of skills" actually helps the team. 7th on the team in goals and always a shot threat. Best penalty differential on the team. Positive goal differential. And we'd finally found a 3rd line that clicked, only to scramble it for no reason. The love for a scrub like Reaves is truly interesting to watch… He's a useless garbage player, and hopefully, that was his last game as a Leaf.

Glad to get the win, but that was embarrassing. What was it; 15 minutes to get our 1st shot? Thank god Woll saved our butts, but I'm getting really tired of getting stomped by teams like Philly.

@ACC1224 predicted this run and it's happened.
Here you go. It's in early running for post of the year.

Not sure what Reaves could do if Hathaway wanted no part of it last night. Hathaway did nothing wrong in either game.

Having said that, Reaves shouldn’t play more than a handful of games the rest of the way.

Our special teams won us this game, along with goaltending. Our PK doesn’t get enough love, and without Caber too.
That…… and a few missed open net chances by Philly.

How is an over the glass penalty ‘selfish’?

because it's INCREDIBLY easy not to do, It's not like hooking or holding or tripping those things suck but they happens naturally even when they aren't called.

There is literally NEVER a situation where you need to shoot the puck cleanly over the glass, that scenario DOES NOT exist.

It's my most hated penalty even more then what I call coaching penalties too many men.

Puck over the glass is just Patches being an idiot.

-1, No fights, 6:52 of ice time.

He's useless, maybe less than useless. He doesn't provide a message, doesn't do anything, and is just a very poor hockey player. As you say, I don't really want to see him in the lineup again. He's cooked.

As far as the game itself, we won. There are no style points. Just win. I appreciate that thought process that playing this way, and the winning isn't sustainable, but learning to win in ugly games is a positive too. If we can win playing this way, what can this group do, when they are playing fully engaged and the right way?

Sure it's a bad penalty but it happens to all teams/players.
Selfish would indicate intent where there wasn't any.

I agree but not before you have someone that can replace him.
Hathaway was more in check yesterday knowing he was on Reaves radar.
If we traded for a guy that can play hockey and bring the ability to fight when needed.
A 4th line of Lorentz Hathaway and Tanev

Had my eye on Hathaway since he was on the Caps. Tough player that provides utility. Reaves was utterly useless yesterday. Don't get me started on Nylander. For someone on pace for 46 goals he looks checked out, not something you expect from a player paid superstar money.

I think people are just used to the high flying offensive style and having a hard time adjusting to Berube’s style of hockey. Which is more defensive.
The issue is that Berube's style of hockey isn't really more defensive. It's just less offensive. We've put up the 18th best defensive results in the league so far. That's not an area of strength. Even if people don't like defensive stats, and want to ignore that goaltending has carried us, we're 9th in goals against. Do people just forget that we were 7th in the league in GA in 2020-2021 and 2022-2023?
The difference with this version of the Leafs is their defensive structure gives up very few second chance shots and their forwards are scoring more from the dirty areas. Add great goaltenders who stop pretty much any shot they can see and they can win games they wouldn’t in the past.
We've given up the 12th most rebound shots and goals in the league. We're giving up more second chance shots. As for our forwards; we've dropped down to 15th in rebound shots and 23rd in rebound goals. We won games like this in the past when we got goaltending like this. We just had less bad games in the first place, and less goaltending performances like this. People still don't seem to get the difference goaltending can make; in both outcome and perception.

Hathaway didn’t do anything the first game either, it was McCabe that brought it on himself. So I doubt very much his game changed because Reaves was dressed.

Another ugly win, some say it’s a mark of a good team. Others would say you can play terribly against a terrible team, get great goaltending and win. Either way, it’s at least nice to bank some points.

Controversial opinion but I still, even after last night, think he has a place in the team this season. I would say last night was his worst game of the season yes. I will also say last season I liked Reaves brand of hockey but less so this season. And zero fights on the year I mean I just can't believe that statistic lol. Hard to defend that so I won't bother.

Right now his place is in the press box TBD and to be a team cheerleader and locker room guy. All the players love him there's no denying, most of the board hate him and want him gone. There is a disconnect here. I agree with Berube decision to start him last night though. I like that call.

Another thing I want to note about Reavo or tough guys in general is, just because one guy makes one hit (I think was Tippett last night?) the entire game that's borderline questionable does not mean his presence does not deter. There could have been multiple opportunities in the game for something more and it never materialized because was known Reaves was in the lineup. Nothing much happened last night on that front. Was Reaves part of that? Hard to say but possibly.

Puck over the glass is just Patches being an idiot.
Hooking and holding and tripping are much more easily controllable. Majority of puck over glass penalties since it became a penalty has been the result of the puck bouncing or spinning in an unexpected way when cleared. There is pretty much never any intent. I get why they put it in because it was a dangerous and easily exploitable option to relieve pressure, but it's one of the stupidest penalties ever.

There are no style points in the standings, and I'll take the banked points, but how you're playing matters for the future. We're not learning to win ugly. We're just playing ugly and getting bailed out by goaltending. We've been pretty unstoppable with goaltending like this for a long, long time. That's nothing new. We were 115-9-8 over the previous 3 years with >0.900 goaltending. But you're going to win more with good play and good goaltending than you will with bad play and good goaltending, and no matter how good your goaltending is playing now, you have no guarantees in that area in April-June. Best to have something else.

Reavo and Robo don't have much to do with each other. Lorentz bounced Robo, so both Dewar and Reavo suited up for 4th line duty.

Lorentz and Dewar were already in the lineup. Reaves replaced Robertson in the lineup, and then Lorentz was moved up into his role because the other three 4th liners are even more offensively inept. But also, I was referencing a discussion from the pre-game.
