How was Sprong in his NJ debut?

Pretty good first 2 periods, a little quiet in the 3rd. Had been involved in maybe 2 quality chances to score.

Faster that I thought, very noticeable. Him and Glass played with Haula and broke him outta his 30 game goal / point drought since late November, that is pretty significant, no joke.

After how bad our 3rd and 4th line production has been, and we've been missing a guy who can really shoot it, I am speculating that he will be producing in NJ + a shot of that motivation being down in the AHL after some 40+ point seasons up here, and being potentially in playoffs will be gratifying for him. I expect a good bounceback from him.

Now with that said, I don't know why he had been in AHL in first place, so hopefully that doesn't come back here, lol

i missed the third, but overall seemed like a good game especially by the newbies. by far haula's best game this calendar year. and man, jake allen just seems like a rock, even more so than marky. what a difference from years past.

the playoffs are definitely still a possibility. win 2 out of 3 for the next few weeks and we're sitting pretty.

Meier isn’t a defensive liability and helps push play forward while Cotter has been the complete opposite lately
Liability? He's at 2.5 Goals Against per 60....Nico is at 2.2. Jesper Bratt is 3.1 and Jack was at 2.8....

Can't all be fantastic like Mercer's 1.9 but they try

Idk what you are trying to say here.

You responded to Keefes quote where he directly said that Cotter is not doing enough in other areas of the ice besides scoring. He is getting abused defensively out there and also causing horrid turnovers leading to chances the other way.

You incorrectly make that comparison to Timo. Where in reality, the complete opposite is happening. Timo is doing everything right and providing very good minutes and contributing strong two way play. The only downside this season is his goal scoring rate has declined.

You then bring up GA/60 where Timo literally has the least amount of goals against rate when he is on the ice out of our top forward stars?

I see you meant “he” as in Cotter in your GA/60 reply. You responded to my reply about Timo so it was confusing. Sure, over the whole season Cotter’s GA/60 is middle of the pack, but in the last two months he has been atrocious and has made many careless plays and is not doing enough out there. Eye test clearly shows it.

I was showing you Cotter is far from a "defensive liability". Which was your claim. From a Goals Against perspective he's right there in the middle of forwards.

The most stinging part for me was: "The reality is each line that I have had him on here of late has gotten a little bit worse"

Ouch!
To me this might be a coaching issue. Telling a guy to “be better” is easy and doesn’t actually help unless the guy isn’t trying his best. The question is why is Cotter struggling? A good coach identifies the specific problem and gives the player a path to fixing it.

Could be the opposite. Maybe he's been telling him over and over again and he's just not getting it or, at least, not doing it. At some point he's gotta pull him out for a reset.

Maybe he could explain it better, sure, or maybe at this point it's like talking to a wall for Keefe.

Just hope it works out.

Very fair point. I guess my impression is that Cotter hustles and tries hard. Maybe he’s not super smart but plenty of less than genius players find success. Like you I want it to work out.
