Hard to beleive that a toolsy 21/22 year old powerfoward drafted out of prep school would take some time to develop. Why can't I have what I want now, now, now?!
He needs to keep building on his recent play. One game at a time. I could care less about his production right now. I like how engaged he's looked. He's playing with confidence, instead of lollygagging around the ice, 2 steps behind the play.

He's got to play the way he's played the last 2 games ALL the time.
The production may not be there on an every game basis, but if he is moving his feet, engaging the opposition, using his size and speed and being a general PITA in front of the goalie, he will be a solid player for us.
Really like what we have been seeing from thsi kid.
Hope he keeps it up.

Kreider is blessed in that if he does what he should do his God given gifts make getting his chances a near certainty. It makes shrugging off a bad shift or game that much easier. Few players are that fortunate.
Takes time, patience from the coaching staff and the players buy in. I think that was lacking last year. It's happening now. All I care about.

He's finally moving his feet.
There's a night and day difference in the effectiveness of his game when he stops being a passenger and starts engaging the play.
He will still have times when he will sleepwalk through shifts and even games, but if he can play like this most of the time I will be very happy.

He was NHL ready. He just needed to change his mentality to be involved/active in games and not be a bystander.
Agreed.
Never really got the raw label with Kreider. McIlrath is raw, Nieves and Tambellini are raw.
You don't get invited to play for US in the WC as a 19 year old if you're raw. He just needs to get used to interpreting an NHL came and not over thinking it.

Not to take this too far OT, but while McIlrath definitely deserves the raw label and I frankly haven't seen Tambellini play, I thought Nieves was looking fairly polished towards the end of last year. (Haven't caught a game yet this year.) You disagree?
Not trying to nit pick, but the above is almost the definition of not being ready.
Prior to this call up Kreider was all potential, no delivery. If the head is not engaged in the task, the body will never follow.
As many have said, perhaps not making the team out of camp, being beaten for a spot by a 6th rounder, breathing diesel fumes and eating crappy road food.....one more time is what it finally took.
"Hey if I don't wake the F^@# up, I could blow this whole deal!"
It's all part of GETTING IT. Which mostly happens in a prospects head. Just my opinion.
What's kind of interesting is that he recently said he's trying to play the game at different speeds rather than full speed all the time.
reading between the lines a bit and speculating, I wonder if his thought process used to be more "go as hard as possible when I see the chance and otherwise wait for my chances" which doesn't work as well at the NHL level.
Now he's skating more but not going all out all the time but it keeps him involved in the play

Looks like he's getting it, playing as a unit instead of being a broken arrow. JT MIller should take note.
Like many have noted, having linemates that you can have confidence in definitely helps.
Sidenote, forget pretty boy Hagelin, I dig the fro Kreider has goin', fear the hair !

I think the difference in Kreider actually now is he's not trying to do too much. There are cases where less is more.
The times he seemed to be standing around it was more confusion about what he should be doing and then he'd be going a million miles an hour and not supporting line mates he was playing with very well.
He's got line mates to work with and now he's working with them. He's letting them do their own jobs and taking care of his own. He's not trying to leave them behind.
As well the light bulb seems to have gone off in his head that he's bigger and stronger than a lot of guys around him and that size and strength can be asset in certain areas of the ice---hence the improved play along the boards, in the corners and in front of the opposition net.

I feel the same way about Talbot. Very pleased, but I won't get giddy with excitement until the consistency is there. Need more than a few good games.

I find that to be an interesting remark, because it kind of seems to me that the opposite happened. I was utterly befuddled by his play last year. He just looked lost, but he shouldn't be because in a way he plays a very simple game. And I think that what's made him look so good during this stretch is he seems to be going full speed. He's not dipsy doodling around doing nothing anymore. His game is skate really fast, if someone beats him to the puck hit really hard, stand in front of the net, when he gets the puck in an open position shoot hard on net... essentially beat people because of his physical gifts. I know there's a bit more to it than that, but those are the characteristics that have made him successful the last few games.
In this case I am referring more to size.
He looked lanky from what I saw last season. Needs to bulk up more.
Kreider was a man when he was drafted. His skills weren't raw though, as opposed to McIlrath.
Cut it out with the meat jokes.
I'm really starting to have beef with you (grass fed).
