Your last sentence is really funny.

Do you really think that this is a reliable measure?

It seems closer to an EA Sports measure than anything.

Perhaps this might help a fantasy draft, but this cannot predict the outcome of a game/season/playoff series.

You seem pretty sure of yourself.

Here's how the two teams match up according to Evolving-Hockey's 3yr Weighted Sample Percentile Rankings. These use the last 3yrs of Gar data, weight them for recency, and add aging curves on top to come up with a total offensive and defensive contribution, then compare it on a percentile basis (i.e. 50 is average, 99 is tops, 1 is bottom). Asterisks indicate that the player only has 1yr of data to go on so its a less reliable measure.

Drouin may not have lived to the expectations so far, but him at 10 and price at 46 is laughable.

When you find crap like this, please don't post it

win or lose, every player needs to be accountable for their intensity.

For sure. I didn't mean to imply that the big money star players didn't need to perform consistently. I just meant we don't need them to OUTperform their contracts. What would Matthews outperforming his contract even look like? Or Marner? LOL.

Thanks for the input.

Price has been an average to below average starter the past few years.

Drouin is terrible.

And that's true whether you base it on eye test or stats.

I'll say this in the GDT to but a lot of this depends on if Andersen comes to play. If he does what he's done in recent past and lets in one at the beginning while the team is just getting started that will dictate a lot of the game.

Actually a pretty good reflection of the Habs woes the last while.

Decent defensive team let down by poor offensive players and underperforming goalkeeping.

This is the first season in a long long time the guys actually seem happy, and there is no shitty story line.

Nylander saga one year

Marner saga the next + team sour on Babcock

Just go out and win now.

Yeah, I think the floating narratives every off-season seemed to create built in excuses.

For the first time, the GM has their head coach for an off-season. There is no hold-outs. This is the team that the GM has built.

Now, it's time for the team to win. That's truly the only thing to focus on.

Habs fans seem flabbergasted that I compared Thornton to Anderson.

It’s almost like they have no idea that the guy had 1 goal and 4 points last year, or that Thornton in a lesser role last season outscored every season but Anderson’s outlier season.

I personally think very little of Josh Anderson. Maybe I’ll eat crow on that but IMO the Habs got fleeced on that trade and on that contract.

This board was dying to acquire Anderson. I never understood it.

Completely agree with you. Watching them come out and get outworked by Montreal would thoroughly piss me off; even if we won off raw talent like you said. It’s time to see this team actually want it and outwork the other team for a change. We won’t get anywhere until that attitude is changed

As someone else in this thread has said, for this core, there are no more excuses anymore.

You have your coach.
You have your big shiny contracts.
You have the partner for Rielly (finally) on the top pairing.
You have a solid goalie tandem behind you.
You have Joe Thornton, who they all apparently wanted to sign with us.
You have an easier division.
You have some "meat" in the lineup again.
You have an easier travel schedule (majority of our games are in Toronto, Montreal, or Ottawa).

Put the past in the past. Who cares about the Lightning. Who cares about the Bolts. Who cares about Lou and Babs. Who cares about contracts. Who cares about the Bruins

We have about ~600K in cap space. That will grow over the course of the season, to give us room to make an addition at the deadline, likely a foward of some sort.

There are zero possible excuses this year. You can't guarantee the Stanley Cup. But there is zero reason why this team can't finish well ahead in the division, and be the ones to come out of the division in the playoffs.

I'd love Anderson for a cheap show me contract.

He'd be awesome in that role.

Anderson at a 7 year contract at 5.5 mil?

Now that's just assbackwards.
100%. If we could have acquired him relatively cheap and then signed him for 2-3 years at a lower cap hit...He is a useful player. The Habs left their whole ass exposed on this one though. His shoulder goes janky again or he proves to just kinda be a 3rd liner that is a Clarkson contract real fast.

Good point, i never even thought of that.

for the first time since Matthews rookie year, there's no drama surrounding the team. Hopefully that translates well!

I will be placing a bet on Josh Anderson scoring 2+ goals tomorrow night though. Just in case we decide to be the Leafs again

Yeah that's definitely happening. We're probably getting a high scoring affair tomorrow.

Actually I expect a lot of high scoring, sloppy games to start this season. Not a typical camp, no exhibition games to get into it...

It'll be messy. Just hope the Leafs can outgun the mistakes they'll make. But it may be a grind.

Expecting a lot of overreaction on here

Yep, this is our year I think.

I am pretty sure of myself. I am not so sure about seeking out the right advanced statistics to prove something on a hockey forum.

maybe we should all just take your word for it on all things hockey, then?
