I've never been high on him since I saw him last year. He's nothing special. Brian strait type player.

He can be better than strait. Better skater size and decision making. With that said I don't see more than a good third pairing d man. I play him over Mayfield and possibly Hickey.

Pelech will be a solid defender. He'll be fringe top 4 and a definite 5 or 6. I've got no worries about him. These types of slumps happen to all young defenseman. I've outlined it on several occasions. Statistically, it can actually be measured (the ebb and flow of a young defenseman's early career).

JHS and MDC with 2 points each last night, and IMO, the best stat for these two, is their +2's, in a game in which they lost, 4-3.

Pulock with an assist, but was a -1.

Burroughs with an assist and a +1.

McAdam seems to have slowed as well. 4 GA on 24 shots.

interestingly, Toews has slowed down, and seemingly it coincided with the return of Pulock. any insight from the avid followers? is Toews getting less PP time? does he seem to be focusing on the defensive side more? he has no points in his last 8 games, but is a +4.

Meh. No matter how you slice it MDC is disappointing so far. He only has 11 goals all season for a guy who's supposed to be a goal scorer. To give you some perspective he only has one more goal than Pulock in 20 more games. That ain't good.

I have serious reservations about his game translating at the NHL level, because it doesn't seem to be translating at the AHL one now.

I think the important thing is the progress he has made and how he adjusts to the pro game. In that regard, I think he has definitively made some strides. I feel like a player with his strength (NHL shot) may take a bit of time to get used to lanes closing more quickly in a faster game. Seems he is similar to Anthony Mantha in that way. Dal colle is actually producing at a better rate than Mantha did in the 60 games of his first AHL season. I still have faith in the kid, maybe not to be a world-beater but to be a guy who can play with one of our playmakers.

He's got 13 points in his last 15 games. Like JHS he just needed time. When he stalls or starts regressing I'll be worried. He's not even getting PP1 time down there from what I recall.

He'll get there.

I wouldn't count out Dal Colle yet. Anthony Mantha of Detroit would be a good example to compare Dal Colle too in regards to abilities and development curve.

I'd wait til after next season to really call him a bust. His numbers thus far dont look good but he appears to be picking up his game lately. Give the kid another summer and see how he looks. The talent is there but hes gotta develop the work ethic and determination to win battles. Thus far in his development he just screams brock nelson 2.0 which we really dont need

The same people trashing MDC and JHS would be the first to trash the Islanders if they traded them and they panned out (which it very much looks like will happen now). They are learning a new, tougher league and being brought along slowly. They both have been white hot for about a month now, and that has coincided with more ice time.

Barzal who had 4 assists last night already has 3 assist tonight with half the game over.

8 Goals 62 assists for the season total in 37 games(or technically 36 1/2)

The assists are INSANE, but how is it possible he might score his lowest goal totals with Seattle this season? I mean we're going to need to get him a true finisher on his line.

Just so happens that's all Dal Colle is lol. Same for Bellows really.

The system is definitely set up for a RH pass first centerman to succeed. Lots of shooting LW's on the team and in the system

Lee
Ladd
MDC
Bellows

Not to mention that he would probably be the first option to feed JT on the PP

Nice to see.

Barzal is scoring 1 goal for roughly every 8 assists. Can anyone think of an NHL player with similar juniors stats? I checked Adam Oates, and he had a 1 to 2 ratio goals to assists in college. Ditto for Backstrom and Krejci as youngsters. 1 to 8 is crazy.

I love him as a prospect, but generally a player scores less goals in the NHL than they did in juniors. Maybe there's something about his team that is causing these lopsided numbers?

These numbers are quite unusual. I also looked at Craig Janney's stats and it's not at all comparable. Giroux too was scoring goals at junior. The one that looks a bit like Barzal is Josh Ho-Sang!

The thing is, its working. The team one point back of the conference lead, whereas I think they were under .500 for the month or so he was with the Isles.

His numbers last year were much more normal. A lot more assists, but still 27 goals. Numbers were roughly 2-1.

This year, he is scoring fewer goals, but scoring a lot more points than last year. He leads his team, and is 22nd in the league in the entire league in points despite missing 24 games this season. He is averaging nearly two points a game, and is actually over that mark since he had 4 points in his first 6 games after riding the Isles' bench for awhile. Only 1 player (Steele) in the league has done that.

Its going to be really interesting to see how quickly he can change his mindset as a pro. Clearly, he is way too skilled a passer for this league. But he will need to be willing to shoot more as a pro. How quickly he can change will determine whether he is in Bridgeport next year or with the Isles.
