It’s not even just that though. The Isles consistently played one player who could beat a goalie one on one with just his shot, and that was Nelson

Wahlstrom’s shot is just as, if not harder, than Nelson’s and his release is wayyyy better

yes, but Wahlstrom cannot skate like Nelson so can he maintain possession of the puck, find space and get that shot off as Nelson can?

We will have to wait and see.

You can teach someone to skate better. You can even teach someone to shoot better, but shots like Wahlstrom’s can’t be taught

Wahlstrom is actually a very good skater.

When? Where? I think he's been pretty average since getting brought up to the NHL. He doesn't bumble around the ice but he's also not burning by anyone or using edgework to do anything special.

Walhstrom is no Brock Nelson when it comes to skating is my point and likely may never be so there are some things that remain to be seen about the kids development.

Yes, skating can be improved but it’s funny how not everyone improves. While it is teachable and learnable, there is natural ability and tendencies these guys have relied on their entire life and if needed having to relearn some aspects to improve doesn’t happen.

Love Wahlstrom and he has improved his play at every level he has participated. He has a high ceiling but still has to get better and skating and finding space for his release will be a big challenge to separate him from an above average scorer and a great scorer.

That's the most difficult thing for a lot of players who possess great shots, they just can't do it at the NHL level. I do think Wahlstrom will be able to figure it out but it might not be super quick.

In my limited viewing I'd put Wahlstrom near the top of the list on our team for a quick release. He's no Josh Bailey, but he's pretty good.

And I remember on our board in his draft year the word being that Wahlstrom was a very strong skater. However, a plus junior/college skater is still probably sub-par for the NHL....

As far as quickness I think his release is the best on the team in his small sample size. Not sure who the next one is, maybe Clutterbuck who has a deceptively quick/hard shot but loves to miss the net. "Quick" and "shot" doesn't really go with anyone else on this roster.

Yeah, you've got that right. It's ironic that Mike Bossy's team is full of slow draws. Off the top of my head Wahlstrom and Barzal are the best. Cal is fast as you said, but he either misses the net or the goalie knows he's going high glove side very time.

27th in Pronman’s rankings
Do any of these prospect gurus publish an archive of all their prior prospect rankings? It would be easier to put any stock in what they're saying if we knew they had a track record of being remotely correct.

The Isles have been drafting more size of late, and Pronman seems to like small, skilled guys.

Pronman's ranking at 27 as mentioned above, and interestingly he's got Raty ahead of Wahlstrom. 1-5 go Dobson, Raty, Wahlstrom, Salo and the last one is surprisingly Dufour. I don't even know much about the latter. He's got Bolduc on the outside looking in and states that he doesn't think he's got high enough puck moving ability to be an NHL regular.

He's counting Dobson and Wahlstrom and he has us at 27? That seems... off.

Where did Pronman have Ruskin listed on Isles prospect b’down? And did he mentioning anything about his development? I know he loved him in his draft year.

Does anyone have Pronman's pre-draft review of Barzal? Would like to see how he described his skating, vision and skills.

Pronman is a fraud. His rankings have been all over the place, he loves skill above all else. When he ranked Kabanov like #2 years ago, that's when I knew he is full of shit.
He's kind of like every other Ontario-based writer. They value skill more than anything else. I'll cut Pronman some slack because it's skill that NHL teams are generally drafting for first (and most fans get a woody over) and he also actually goes to the games rather than evaluating prospects off of video. But I basically agree with you.

His 2010 rankings had him at 4 which IS ridiculous but...

A. Any list projecting kids like this is ALWAYS bound to be more wrong than it is right. Too many variables and uneven scouting of the player pool.

B. I don't fault his logic on giving some of the players that ooze skill with red flags a bump, the problem is that he routinely catapults them. He should just add into the blurb about 'top 5 potential' or whatever.

Edit: 2011 was interesting too... Strome @ 2 and then:
16. Scott Mayfield, Defense, Youngstown-USHL*
17. Jonas Brodin, Defense, Farjestad-SEL*
18. Sven Brtschi, Left Wing, Portland-WHL*
19. Nikita Kucherov, Left Wing, CSKA-MHL*
20. Dmitrij Jaskin, Right Wing, HC Slavia Praha-Czech Extraliga*
