If Dobbers had it, we’d be going through the same as Boston where contacts would be identified and shut down, with games possibly being cancelled. They have those trackers on 24/7 so contacts are easily identified. If I had to guess, I’d say someone that Dobson lives with contracted the virus and now he’s in quarantine as a close contact.
The situation is weird. My guess is Dobson went someplace he’s not supposed to go now he has to quarantine.

I had it from a very reliable source that Dobber is out because his test results keep fluctuating.. Since the fateful Sunday, he has tested positive, then the second test was negative, then another positive then another negative. He next gets tested again on Tuesday.

He is isolating in a hotel room and slowly losing his mind.. they brought him an exercise bike, but I guess he doesn't feel it compares to the thrill of playing NHL hockey games. Kids these days, I tell ya..

But he did apparently have a headache the first day, so who knows. If he does have it, and that's the only symptom he suffers, that's a bonus. Really hope he's back soon.

I have another theory. It seems most teams in our division get infected when they go to NJ. lol

Wasn’t Hutton in the bubble?they like him. Could be a future Mayfield replacement
I like Hutton, whenever I see him play, I wonder why he wasn't drafted. Size and mobile enough, he's not going to be a top 4 D man, but he can definitely be a good bottom pairing useful D man. Realistically college free agents are a hit or a miss, Maybe Lou hit here.

I like him too. I think he has a legit shot to be an NHL defenseman.

reminds me so much of Cizikas. Would be a welcome addition in that case.
Really? I think i wish he could be like a Kuraly. Reminder he is a UFA after this season, and I fear we might as well not keep cizikas

I had the virus and had bad headaches for 8ish days. Over the headaches but the fatigue is what I fear for him. I am 2 weeks past any symptoms but still get very tired very easily.

My son aged 10 had it and suffered minor headaches. The weirdest thing was that none of us caught it despite spending 3 weeks indoors together ! I tested negative 4 times and the wife 5!

I can't wait until these guys make the NHL... so we can talk about how much we wish they weren't in the NHL! ;)

On a serious note, it seems that at least recently, the minor league numbers for our guys do not necessarily translate to the professional results (I'm talking strictly about BP here). The guys the Islanders seem to identify as the most talented appear to be conditioned at Bridgeport for the pro game, and then when they get placed with better talent around them, find success. At least early success. How they adjust to the league as the league adjusts to them, will be telling too.

The point is though, some of the concern over the BP results seems to be overblown relative to how our prospects are performing in the NHL, thus far.

I don't think we are that sassy about prospects here

Rumor has it that yesterday he woke up in the morning.

Reports say he had something to eat but that can't be confirmed.

No info on after hours activities.

Agreed, the criticisms here are generally fair. I think winning helps some the impatient overreactions from popping up on the young guys.
we usually aren't trying, because im being real with my expectations. If the kid gets into being good, then so be it. With our pool, nobody is expecting a guentzel or stone or whatever late round good pick that teams get: that comes with time

I think going forward Isles need to put skating and puck handling on top of their draft profile next to passion, a must for all prospect no matter the size. If the player is below certain size, it has to be elite for him to survive in the NHL. If below 5.11, I would also suggest that this player has incredible good hockey vision and play head up hockey to avoid being hit in open ice and on the boards, maybe better suited for centre positions. Has to have a strong weight lifting program to ensure mid body and upper body strength to compensate for the height. I would also prefer defense prospects to be taller because it is real hard for them to box out big forwards in front of the net.

So the skill priority should be like this:
1. passion for the game (this is important as without it they can easily give up and do not bring enough game to game), integrity, and accountability - normally a requirement for success for any kind of job
2. skating - this is how the games are played today, if you can't keep up, you get left behind. Transition is too important for the games played today. You also can't check or hit if you missed your target more than 50% of the time
3. puck handling - this include passing, puck protection, retrieving pucks on board, and ability to quarrel a quick pass even when it is not perfect
4. hockey IQ, vision, decision making, attention to detail
5. shooting - particular important for player score average on all of the above, but must have a quick accurate release strong enough to beat NHL goalie, and can shoot from anywhere, not just in prime area in front of the net
6. endurability and fitness (an important factor for a long career)
7. coachable (willing to learn and determine to improve through hard work)
8. size and toughness, willingness to go to the dirty area
9. special skill - PK, face-off, hand-eye co-ordination (which can be important in scoring in front of net0
10. defensive acumen - if strong, is a bonus, if not, can be learned at AHL level and improve via NHL experience
11. discipline - not taking too many bad penalties, has control over action on ice
12. leadership - this is a bonus if player come with it

For defenseman, size/strength, hockey IQ, attention to detail, endurability and decision making may be more important than shooting, but not less than passing and skating skills combined.

Provided the Isles can extend Pelech long term this year, followed by Pulock after that, I am not really worried about the defense.

We know what we have in Pelech, Pulock and Dobson.

I really believe that Buldoc is destined to be Dobson's partner for the next 5-10 years, which sets the top-4 for a while.

Salo is interesting and has elevated his game, which will now need to traverse to the North American style and rinks, while Hutton could be a solid and cheap third pairing player.

So defense, at least to me, is the least of the Isles concerns.

Sure it is always good to add more youth and depth, but centers (at all levels) and high-end skill players should be the focus.

Maybe even restocking some goalie depth beyond Skarek, followed by developing cheap options for the bottom six, all come in ahead of defense. At least in the near term, for me.

Of course that doesn't mean passing over a quality defense prospect, if they are the clear BPA.

at the same time, heres what i think can matter too: making sure theres always depth

we badly need center depth and its scary how thin it is now
