When Bailey was McDavid's age his FO% was 41%, just like McDavid. And the reason he was moved to wing is because the Islanders were overflowing with centers, i.e. Tavares, Strome, Nelson, Nielsen, Cizikas, Grabovski, Bailey. It's not cause he sucks at center.

Look, I don't particularly like Bailey and think he holds no value at a 3.3 cap hit, but to say he can't play center is flat out wrong.

Initially, I didn't say he can't play center. I said he doesn't play center. And he hasn't consistently in nearly half a decade. I think it's safe to say he doesn't play center.

Terrible trade for Edmonton.

I'd rather give yakupov away for picks than do this. Bailey isn't nearly as good as he's been hyped in this thread.

You took the words right out of my mouth, from an Isles standpoint. Absolutely no interest in Yak. Would much rather dump Bailey for a mid-round pick, or any round pick, for that matter.

You wouldn't be " giving" away Yakupov. You'd be trading him away for picks, or pick, more likely. As far as the comment about Bailey- do you really think he's the one who has been over hyped of the two? Really?

No kidding. So far Bailey's managed to be more consistent and a better contributor overall than Yakupov (that really says more about how badly the former #1 has done, not how well Bailey has done...).

Agreed. Right now, as much as I hate to say it because I despise him, Bailey has been a better NHL player than Yakupov. That being said, Yakupov definitely has the ability to turn it around, and I think he can do that on the Islanders. Doesn't seem like he has a chance of doing that in Edmonton, so why not get a player who can help rather than a guy who has no chance of rebounding with your franchise?

It's risky for both sides of course, but not that risky, and could be beneficial for both teams.

Is Bailey an upgrade over Versteeg in any aspect of his game?

I would rather just dump Yakupov for picks or via waivers than pick up more salary. Use it on someone we actually need.. (Russell)

Dylan? Good luck with that. Yotes seem to be pretty high on him.

You can't mean Ryan Strome for Yak. That fantssy trade will never go down.
I honestly don't think the isles would take Yak off waivers. They have a glut at forward with Quine/Prince/Barzal fighting for the last few spots.

Mayfield for Yakupov could work for both team especially with SM having to clear waivers to be sent down.

Mayfield can duke it out with Gryba for #6 spot.

I'd be happy to do that, but we would still need to lose a forward another way. But yeah, if this is the deal that Edmonton wants I would do it. I think Mayfield has legit NHL potential, but he just won't get any playing time here.

With the isles glut at forward, makes no sense to add a bottom 6 forward.

yeh.. Oilers would also be adding to the number of Dmen fighting for bottom pairing spots but its a lot better to have a glut than a hole.
If Mayfield can outplay Nurse or Reinhart forcing them down to the AHL so be it. As long as it improves the team. If Yak outplays Barzal or whoever then NYI just sends em down and let them develop some more.

If Mayfield doesnt outplay anyone then the Oilers just waive him down. ditto with NYI and Yak.

The Isles have their own internal options up front, Ho-Sang and Dal Colle are now pros and can be sent up and down easily. Add in the fact that they are cost controlled on ELC's, it makes little sense to add Yakupov. Add in Quine and Prince, we have enough options.

I have no interest in trading Mayfield, you can never have enough defensive depth. I understand the Seidenberg signing makes it more of a roster crunch on the blue line, but Mayfield is worth holding onto.

The problem is where does Bailey fit in with the oilers? Down the middle Leon, nuge and McDavid and on the wings lucic, eberle. Pouliot. The joker. Maroon. Versteeg. Kassian and a few others. Looks like versteeg us taking the 3Rd wing spot

I was essentially putting him wherever Yakupov was going to be, considering they play the same position.

Line them up alphabetically and Bailey comes out well ahead of Versteeg and Yakupov for that matter. Sorry... I got nothing else.

But in all seriousness, Bailey is not bad but he's not really good either. The guy must be the most average player in the NHL. I think of Bailey and I'm constantly reminded of of Joe from the movie "Idiocracy."

That's good, I'm sure Edmonton would laugh if offered Bailey for Yakupov.

By Islander fans in this thread? Yes.

I see you guys **** on him constantly on and off here. Just about every Islander fan I know personally and a lot on here want him gone for nothing and then when these threads pop up, magically it turns into "OH WELL BAILEY IS ACTUALLY A GOOD PLAYER, HE GETS UNFAIRLY TREATED BECAUSE OF HIS DRAFT POSITION."

Give me a break.

I don't think a single person has described him as a good player. Just not terrible.

what metric is Yak a better player? Yak is a threat in both ends of the ice unfortunately he's more of a threat on his own net.

Oilers take this deal and run away laughing. Yakupov joins the KHL after this contract.

Because he is a Russian?? The chances of Bailey bolting to KHL after his contract are higher than Yak going. Oilers would rather waive Yak than trade him Bailey.

Yes because he's Russian, he will get paid more in the KHL after no one signs him after this contract. You have to skate both ways if you want to play in game the NHL.

You would rather have the worse player because of where he was drafted?

I thought Yakupov was sound defensively and worked hahd? That's what Oiler fans tell me anyway. They seem to always blame his production on the coach.
