Both guys need changes of scenery. The Islanders need scoring in their middle-6, and Yakupov could potentially help out with that. The Oilers get an NHL player who only has two years left on his deal, and could potentially turn it around in a new environment.

Oilers top 6 is full and we don't need more forwards except an bottom 6 elite PKer. Does Bailey do that? No? Then no thanks.

No chance the Oilers take on more term.

No thanks. Yak is no more a quality, reliable scorer then Bailey.

But his upside is still better. If nothing else he is on a cheaper contract. I am guessing if the Oilers were really trying to dump Yak, it would cost our first rounder(lottery protected)

I can see why the oilers do it--but why would the NYI

Problem from the oilers perspective is Bailey 3.3mill--Yak is on 2.5--

If the NYI want the deal done--800K retention for one for one

Oilers wings top 6
-1Lucic
2-Eberle
3-Pouliot
4-Versteeg(maybe)
5-Maroon
6-The Joker(AKA Pool Party)
with
Kassian
Yak
Hendrick
Pak

and a couple of other guys floating around

oilers top 2 lines could be
Lucic-McDavid-Eberle
Poulit-Nuge-leon D or the Joker with Versteeg in a spot

If the NYI want Yak--we will trade him for a pick but I would have a problem with a guy who would be on our third line making 3.3--Bailey wont get the same ice time in Edmonton as he would with the NYI

IMO

I'm sorry that this is all I picked out of your post but if that's a problem for you then don't expect to grow and maintain a winning team.

I don't mind one or two that can help to win (i.e Boyd Gordon at $3.6M a few years ago) but an overpaid one that isn't above average on PK and faceoffs... no thanks.

Oilers problem has always been poor puck movement out of the zone from the D. Cap space should be used for that.

Can Bailey play centre?

Actually wouldn't mind this, plus I think the NYI have the linemates to fit Yak (I was wanting the Oil to go after Kulemin and Grabo a few years back)

Bailey potencially frees up Drai to go to RNH wing.

Bailey isnt a bad exchange except hes too soft and zones out too much. If he put his nose to the grindstone and showed up every shift, then yeah I do this trade but then the Islanders wouldnt.

Why in the world would you think it would cost a first rounder? Maybe if he played well this season but if they were looking to move Yak right now only a total idiot would offer up a 1st round pick period.

If I'm moving yak, NYI are on the bottom of the list. It'll be a similiar return no matter what but to **** with the NYI(yes I'm still salty about their conduct during the hamonic saga)

Ha okay, bud. Whatever you say.

On an unrelated topic, is the staff at Barclays *****? They had an event there on the weekend and ppl I'm reading say that the staff yelled at kids, gave up on even doing their jobs, and overall were just terrible. Is this normal or do u think it was specific to the event?

No. Josh Bailey has moved to left wing permanently it would seem.

This deal does nothing for us considering our depth on the wing, especially if Versteeg gets signed. I also think Yakupov has more grit in his game. We may be forced to take a deal like this eventually but I'd personally wait until we see a healthy roster with Yakupov well out of it before I consider it.

They ****ing sucked at the beginning of the season.

They let people walk during play, they don't stop annoying fans, they take their sweet time getting you food. The worst was that they wouldn't let anyone go other sections before the game if you didn't have a ticket for that section. I couldn't see friends because we were sitting in different sections, we had to meet in the concourse which isn't as comfortable. That's not really a big deal, but I didn't really understand why they would do that. It was before the game, who cares?

At one point, one of the worst things I heard was when I made it late to a game (about 5 minutes), and a head security guard lady screamed "it's going to take 30 minutes to get into the arena from here!!!" Obviously I went in regardless considering I had tickets and I'm not going to miss a game because it may take a while to get into the arena. I went in and it took maybe 5 minutes to go through security (there was a long line) and got to my seat with about 12-13 minutes left in the 1st period. What bothered me so much was that it seemed as though she was dissuading people from coming into the arena. Excuse me? I have tickets, I'm going to watch a hockey game. Don't try to discourage me from coming in because it's a basketball arena and you weren't expecting a hockey team here. Granted, I was not in a great mood that day, but it felt like she was saying "Go find something else to do, this line is really long".

At one point in the season, I know there was a run in with security and some fans, but from what I remember that happened in Section 229 aka The Blue and Orange Army, who's known for being the most annoying and obnoxious group of Islanders fans. They all deserve to get kicked out of the arena.

As the year they went on they did get better, but at the beginning of the season they made me very angry. Not that I justify their terrible work, but Islander fans were very, very, very hostile going into the Barclays Center. Nobody wanted to move from the Coliseum, we had a frustrating playoff last year where we got crushed in Game 7, we didn't make any major acquisitions after a great year. Wrongly, Islander fans went into the season with great hostility which immediately made Brooklyn a negative experience to most of the fanbase.

Ask Bones about the cupholders.

He's a natural center. Good two-way game. He can LW and center effectively.

Basically this OP gives the Oilers a solid NHL player for one that can't put it together. To be honest, NYI takes all the risk.

The OP is a notorious Bailey hater, he's the President of the anti-Bailey fan club actually. It's as if Bails stole his girlfriend or something. Did he Slapshot? ;)

I appreciate the detailed response, and it wasn't an article but a large sub Reddit had many threads about it. Here's a link to one that discusses a couple issues, but the first point discussed is the staff:

Josh is a versitile (can play any forward position) 30-40pt defensive player that can slot anywhere in your bottom 9 and PK. Preferably bottom 6

He gets a lot of flak because of where he was drafted, how Capuano uses him (sometimes on the top line... ugh) and being slightly overpaid.

several months ago , Yak was reportedly shopped, with the press saying the Oilers were looking at getting a 3rd for this 25-30 pt player. shakehead

Let's not get caught up in where Yak was drafted.

Bailey can easily play C (or RW). As a matter of fact, he's a natural center who was only moved to W a couple years ago due to the Isles having too many C's, same as the Strome (and Nelson too) situation last season.
