The Islanders are falling apart. They need a big shakeup, going to take 1 player for that shakeup to happen.

If there's any truth to Islanders and Avalanche being in discussion for a trade, I really hope they're targeting MacKinnon. No idea what the Islanders would need to offer to make that happen, but he's exactly what they need.

So what kind of realistic trade could the Islanders make that would make the Avs say..."yes, this is worth trading away our just turned 21 year old, 1st overall pick that we just signed to a 7 year contract"??

I imagine it would have to start with Hamonic and the Isles would need to add more. As much as I'd hate to lose the Hammer, getting MacKinnon to play with Tavares is exactly the kind of move this team needs to make. Hopefully Pulock and Pelech will be able to make up for losing Hammer.

The real question is, what would Av's fans want in exchange? My initial offer would be something like Hamonic + Ho-sang + 1st '17. I understand that might not be enough, so I'd be happy to hear counter offers. I think that, in order to get a guy like MacKinnon, the Islanders should make just about every asset they have available. This would include top forward prospects like Barzal/Beauvillier/Bellows and young roster players like Nelson/Lee/DeHaan/Strome.

Forget about Avs! Islanders and Arizona! Hanzal and Duclair for Strome and Bailey! More or less Islanders had reps at last nights game Arizona VS Flames. Talks heating up between bottom dwellers!

Absolutely zero interest. The Avs don't need defense more than they need offense right now, at all, so forget Hamonic as a starting point. MacKinnon isn't getting traded for anything realistic (he's a 21 year old first overall pick they just signed for 7 years), and he certainly would not be traded for a package.

Not sure why you're asking me, I already literally said I had no idea what it would take.

Honestly, I have a hard time gauging what Colorado really particularly needs to even come up with the start for a proposal. Ideally, they're looking for depth, as the Islanders can offer that, but I'm guessing they'll want something more of a major center piece.

If Hanzal & Strome are linked in a deal, it would be more like
Strome & Salary Dump for Hanzal + Pick or Low cost Player

That free's up some space to make another move taking on Salary
Not giving up Strome for impending UFA

i actually think they should start exploring the option of dealing tavares soon. Not put him on the block but actually listen to offers. Tavares has a modified ntc and nmc for the next 2 years which could potentially limit options in the future. And if islanders slide this year and dont really recover next season i see a chance the jt leaves. Imo stamkos was pretty close to leaving and that was from a pretty powerhouse team with still a ton of upside. And they almost lost him for nothing

islanders have good young pieces but if they cant recover next year, youd think tavares would be concerned with getting a shot at a cup and could explore the option of leaving. So rather than it coming to that you could deal him sooner and get a bigger return.

I could actually see something like monahan+hamilton for tavares+pulock could work

lol!

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: are you ******* serious. Any proposal where monahan is the main piece coming back for Tavares is god awful for NYI
Over the past 2 full seasons Tavares has 31 points more than Monahan, which is a decent amount. but Monahan is 4 years younger and is signed for 6 years Including this year), compared to 2 years (including this year) for Tavares. With no guarantee that Tavares would re-sign in Calgary, giving up Monahan, Brouwer, one of our top prospects and a pick that looks like it could be a top 5 pick would be an absolute terrible deal for the Flames. I get why the Isles would say no, but you are lying to yourself if you think that is a good deal for Calgary.

Well we don't know that. If Lee got traded for Cogliano for example, it could light a fire under the ***** of some to see a guy who's been there a while get traded. And then someone like Strome could have real good chemistry with him and there we go.

I was trying to make you see how silly it was to make that kind of statement...I guess I failed. It's like an Avs fan saying "I hope we target Carey Price from the Canadiens...we could really use a goalie like that".

I really don't understand another fan thinking like that...as if Mack is some sort of trade chip that the Avs are on the fence about...not sure if they were going to keep him or trade him.

Think about the way you felt about Tavares his first 3-4 years in the league for the Islanders...Avs fan feel the same way about MacKinnon.

To answer the question, the Islanders could not come up with a realistic package to pry away MacKinnon from the Avs. Even with Tavares, when you consider his contract is up at the end of next year and the Avs have Mack locked up long-term at $6.3M, I wouldn't even take a 1-for-1 deal.

The last I checked, Cogliano is fitting really well on Kesler's wing, but I assume you were just using him as an example.

Both. I saw Ducks fans talk of him how a lot of Islander fans talk of Clutterbuck, the stat line doesn't tell the whole story so I get that but NBC Sports threw him in the mix as a target.

On the Isles board I have said though that following the Pens last year (Cup aside) of a coaching change, followed by a Perron for Hagelin type deal could benefit this club going forward.

Doesn't sound like we will get a coaching change but a Lee/Kulemin trade for another teams Lee or Kulemin could be a spark the team needs.

I wonder if Lee for Jimmy Hayes is something that's doable.

I'd love if we could fire Cappy and have a Mike Sullivan to bring up but we definitely do not have a Mike Sullivan over here.

Not being a fan, I hope they take a poorer deal outside the division than a better deal inside the division. That's Milbury smart.

:laugh::laugh:

Been thinking that all season. Ladd was a downgrade for the same money.

Ladd is a huge downgrade. Okposo at $6m is much better than Ladd at $5.5m.

But, Okposo would be anchoring the second line. Doesn't go well with Tavares.

Trade or no trade, this team and organization is a mess! And I won't blame JT one bit for bailing! This Ladd contract and Boychucks will come back to haunt them! I understand the need for Boychucks deal but Ladd's was and is a joke! And the ICE is beyond a nightmare! And what freaking team carries 3 goalies, and now for a 2nd season??? Snow must have great photos! 3 goalies now
for 2 seasons! I think that speaks for itself! Vezina Award winner no where in sight!

What's a second line? I thought you just have one star, a 4th line of grinders, and then throw random people out the rest of the time?

No, no, no. It's all about depth. The ideal team has 11 3rd liners, 6 middle pairing defenseman, and 3 goalies!
