Islanders (2-2-0) @ Winnipeg (2-1-1)
Season series: This is the first of three meetings between the teams. The Islanders won three of
four against Winnipeg last season.
Big story: Isles goaltender Rick DiPietro made his first start in over a year Friday night, as he
made 23 saves in a 4-2 loss to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden.
"They did a good job getting traffic in front," DiPietro told Newsday. "I thought we responded well
after we were down early."
Team scope:
Islanders: New York played well for two periods Friday night and received another contribution
offensively from waiver claim Keith Aucoin, as the 34-year-old tallied his second and third goals of
the season to help his new club take a 2-1 midway through the second period. But Gregory Campbell
erased the deficit for the Bruins less than four minutes later before Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron
put the game away in the third.
"It’s pretty frustrating because we played a pretty solid game and we thought it was a winnable game,"
Isles defenseman Andrew MacDonald said. "Maybe we ran out of gas a little bit in the third, but we
still expect a lot more."
Jets: Winnipeg earned its second victory of the season in dramatic fashion Friday night, as they
rallied after Sidney Crosby scored twice in the first period with three tallies and another in the third
for a 4-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins in front of a raucous, capacity crowd at the MTS Centre.
Jets captain Andrew Ladd gave his club a 3-2 lead late in the second and Blake Wheeler added an
empty-net tally with 1:08 remaining in regulation to seal the deal.
"When you're at home you start getting the crowd behind you and it becomes an extra player for you",
coach Claude Noel said. "They were right into the game."
Who’s hot: Isles winger Michael Grabner leads his team with five points (three goals, two assists)
through four games, while Aucoin is 3-1-4 and John Tavares has four assists.
Through its first four contests, Winnipeg’s top two scorers are defenseman. Dustin Byfuglien has two
goals and three assists, while Tobias Enstrom has five assists.
Injury report: New York will be without forwards Josh Bailey (knee) and Jesse Joensuu (groin) and
defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky (suspended by team).
Winnipeg defenseman Zach Bogosian (wrist) and forward Antti Miettinen (upper body) are on injured
reserve.
