Obviously not realistic but just for fun:

I genuinely believe the Isles need a full tear-down rebuild. There is no "re-tooling" that tire fire. They have no assets to build around the only 2 foundational players they have in Barzal and Dobson.

Drafting Matthew Schaefer 1st overall is a perfect event to press the reset button for the Isles and start on a new path. While not old necessarily, Barzal (27) and Dobson (25) don't exactly align with the timeline of a burgeoning #1 dman in Schafer who always seem to take longer to hit their stride (like Hedman, like Dahlin etc).

It also so happens that the 4th and 5th picks are held by teams that I could see being motivated to move them. So I propose this:

To Utah:

Noah Dobson

To NYI:

4th overall

Why? Utah is looking to compete. Rebuild is over and they have boatloads of talented forwards. Need a good puck moving D to get the puck up to them and quarter back a PP. A player like Dobson is much more useful for a team in the position Utah is currently in than an 18 year old prospect.

To Nashville:

Matt Barzal

To NYI:

5th overall

Why? Nashville badly needs a #1 center and last years summer spending spree shows they don't want to rebuild. Barzal is a 27 year old #1 C and fits in perfectly there. Nashville already has a very nice prospect pool to supplement the main roster so they can afford to forgo this pick to get what they need most.

Islanders as I said press the total reset button and leave the Peacock Theatre in June with Matthew Schaefer, hometown kid James Hagens, and take your pick of Porter Martone, Anton Frondell, Caleb Desnoyers etc. That's a great start to a rebuild and leave them perfectly positioned to draft very high in next years highly anticipated draft.

I'm assuming you're a Utah fan by your profile pic?

Utah has one of the most promising and most talented crop of young forwards in the league and is a team that desperately needs to take the next step and become a playoff team. Especially being the second season in a brand new market, you don't want to lose momentum with the fan base.

The Utah D core #2-7 after Sergachev is extremely weak.

What is Utah going to draft at #4 that is more valuable over the next 3-5 seasons than a 25 year old top pairing Dman? Time for Utah to stop having a long-term outlook for their success window. They have the pieces mostly in place to start being competitive as early as this upcoming season.

We got over a month of this to look forward to.
1) This has literally nothing to do with your team

2) This is a trade forum. Why come here if it's hard for you to endure people doing exactly what this forums is designed for - proposing hypothetical/fantasy trades. Stay off the board for the next month then.

There's not even anything outlandish here. Teams that want to compete trade draft picks for really good players to team that wants to rebuild. So provocative!

Dobson for the 4th has already been proposed and I haven’t seen any interest from Utah fans on that. Barzal for the 5th probably isn’t happening bc Nashville needs futures more. On top of everything else doing all this so we have three top five picks in one of the weaker drafts in recent memory seems like overkill.

What does math have to do with this? Pretty straight forward 1 for 1 trades.
Clearly you didn’t actually read what I’m saying. There’s been about 250 trade scenarios where the Isles either trade down to or acquire another pick high up in this draft. Atleast 17 day appear and it’s redundant.

I really like Hagens for Nashville.

He would be my choice for them if they were still drafting at 3 and there's a chance he is still there at 5. He might not be an instant NHL star but he's too talented and smart not to be one.
Yeah, I'm crossing my fingers he'll fall but I have a feeling Trotz will pick McQueen despite his back injury.

Utah would be more interested In 4th for Barzal. No interest in Dobson.

First, the right side of their D includes Durzi, Marino, Kesselring and promising Lamoureux. Hardly "extremely weak."

Meanwhile, their #s C is Barrett Hayton. THAT is weak.

No interest in giving up a top 4 pick for an offensive D that the team does not really need (assuming Durzi will rebound and Kesselring keeps improving).

Barzal would be more appealing but he is not really a C is he.

Sorry friend but those two players aren’t worth that value.

San Jose and Nashville need RHD.

Chicago and Utah do NOT need RHD. Chicago has Levshunov Rinzel Murphy. Utah has Durzi Kesselring Marino and Lamoreoux.

Islanders will need RHD unless they plan on keeping Dobson and Pulock (unlikely IMO).

Every time I see a proposal of 3rd overall or 4th overall for a big name RHD, I cringe a tiny bit. You're barking up the wrong tree.

There's this concept called 'selling tickets' . . . easy to postulate this when it isn't money coming out of your pocket

My guess is if the Islanders trade Barzal and Dobson, Horvat will ask to be traded as well. lol
