Islanders should re-sign Brad Boyes

Boyes was a stop gap signing and Snow has stuck to his guns by not being swayed to seriously re-sign him. Boyes also knew it was a great opportunity to put up numbers alongside Tavares. Let him move on to another team as was always the plan.

He was the worst player on the ice last night. He is a pansy. He doesnt have to leave the team, but he cant stay on the first line.

No problems with the Isles resigning Boyes.... as a 3rd line winger and for money in line with that and where they fill a top line winger void via trade or UFA.

Boyes is utterly useless when he's not scoring goals. Why would you want him on the third line? I much rather see Lee, JJ, Ullstrom, even Nelson, get a crack at the bottom 6 winger spot.

Keith Aucoin is a intersting resigning option for Isles this summer as a cheap one year stop gap until Brock Nelson or Ryan Strome prove they can play center at the NHL level. Aucoin knows his role with team and does whatever is asked of him. As Islanders are making there playoff push I see Aucoin working his ass off and Boyes just looking to score goals and pad his stats for a better contract.

I agree, but I still don't bring back Boyes, or Aucoin, or Reasoner, or Boulton.

I think there needs to be room on the roster for 2 or 3 of Strome, Nino, Nelson, Ullstrom to BOTH earn a spot and be expected to grow into a more productive player over a full 82 games. Cizikas is a great example of a player who's gotten better and better!

This strategy doesn't work as well in a 48 game compressed schedule - which has been great for prospect development, but makes more sense over 82 games.

I think we have to bring back all the defensemen though, including Martinek. I think we never have enough. We will probably lose 1 to waivers anyway.

i dont bring back boyes.....we needa 1st line player

this season has showed us that you need a clear top 6 and a clear bottom 6 to compete...boyes is neither of those things

its no wonder we are a much better team with bottom 6 players who can actually produce (cizikas, MCD, martin, etc)

Believe it or not, would not be totally against bringing Aucoin back as a guy who can do a little filling in here and there. He would be the only one of the four you list.

And Aucoin, even if we see Garth evolve into a real GM and get real players this summer, serves us well as a GREAT lockerroom guy in the minors.

That's the biggest reason I was happy with his being signed.

I think Aucoin is the epitome of a tweener and I think we can definitely find an upgrade to replace him. He hustles his butt off and I salute him for that, but he's very limited. I'd love for him to be at the Bridge to mentor some of the kids next year, but I'd like to see him play in the NHL next season as I think he's earned a longer look... just not in an Isles jersey.

Aucoin is regularly playing this year and do not want him for that role next season. Just as a fill in if a player has to miss a game with the flu or something like that, rather him than one of the kids. Aucoin is the type who you can see getting into coaching one day if he wants to do so. If he can be a guy that can shuffle back and forth between Bridgeport, then fine.

I came up with a nickname for Boyes last night during the Bruins game. Based off a very bad TV reality show when one contestant on the team was there solely to ruin it for everyone else- The Mole. If Snow brings The Mole back I will not be very happy as we have other players who can play top line minutes and do a much better job.

Aucoin is one of the best players i have ever seen at keeping the puck in the o-zone. So many times the other team tries to clear it and he knocks it down, catches it, it hits him....

I totally LOST IT when he took that stupid D.O.G. penalty.

Brad Boyes should be Plan B for Snow in the offseason.

Unless we can sign him short term & cheap, we should let him go to free agency. And if we are turned down by the first wave of UFA's and can't get a better player on the first line then pay a slight premium to bring BB back (assuming he's still available).

I do think the islanders should get rid of boyes, but that being said they need to replace him with another veteran option. We can't expect all of nino, lee, strome and nelson to make the team. Im ok with 2, but too many rookies is not gonna make us better.

I was 100 percent incorrect when I started this thread a while back wanting the Isles to resign Brad Boyes. Since than I now see our young kids such as Bailey, Okposo, Grabner, Martin, Cizikas etc all playing much better than Boyes. Signing Boyes for this season was fine for 1 year at 1 million but Snow needs to let Boyes walk this summer.

Oh thank goodness this is what this bump was for. I was worried he was infact resigned.

Hey brad! The last 5 games are home games so uh meet us at iceworks. Yeah that's it meet us
At iceworks

I get home from work, see this thread and see it is 5 pages long. I didn't read anything...so, if this is a re-hash of an idea...sorry.

I'm up for signing him again, but as a 3rd/4th liner/depth player.

He's pretty much proven he can't hack it as a top liner.

He is not a good checker, or grinder, or energy style player. There is no place for him on the first, third, or fourth line. The second line is already crowded. So unless we trade some folks, there is no room left.

Bye Brad. Gtfooh
