Pre-Game Talk: Islanders @ SENS, Friday 7:30 pm

That must be a really hard job putting together that schedule. Imagine doing it with no computer. Or i guess im assuming they have a program now that takes in all the requirements and constraints and pumps out an optimized schedule. But i wonder if teams like Toronto and Montreal always win the optimization battle over teams like Ottawa. Or if they alternate who gets the better choice each year. Either way, hope the person putting it together is paid well, dont think id want that job lol.

So what do you think would happen, if the Senators, or any other team rejected the NHL schedule, after all that went into it?

The laughter would be deafening.

The Senators are not the only team in the NHL, there are 31 other teams, and most share their buildings with NBA franchises and all these teams have to coordinate with each other to construct a schedule, based around building availability, which has to allow for other events, like concerts that book sometimes year or more in advance.

Complaining about the schedule is a waste of time, and will change nothing. Blaming the team for their schedule is equally ridiculous, every other team has the same complaints, but also know they’re all at the mercy of each other.

Very strange for such a long delay.

Traveling West is so much easier than East. There is no way they require until Friday to be ready, particularly when they only had 2 days to get ready in Sweden? Maybe 3?

Nhl decided to give us a nice little schedule to start the year. Unfortunately we treaded water

I find it much easier adjusting when I get to Europe. I stay up a few extra hours and I’m good to go the next day. It takes me 3-4 days to adjust when I fly back to Ottawa.

Best start we’ve had in 7 seasons.

You'd likely be the exception, that or perhaps you're just doing more of the right tricks to adapt when heading east. East vs West jet lag has been studied,

I think players should be fine, they are going to get all the tricks from the sports science and training staff.

If you told me before training camp that after 15 games we'd be 8-7-0 with Zub missing 7 games, Chabot missing 8 and Brannstrom missing 5, along with Pinto being suspended for all of them, I'd call that a good start all things considered.

there is a company in BC that does that. I forgot its name. They specialize in AI schedule generation. The NFL uses them.. If you google, you will find them. There are others, who know which the NHL uses.

So, yes, big markets are prioritized, as are a whole host of other variables that enter the decision making for the schedule.

The Sens being a small market team, they are low on the Totem pole.

This article is from 2021 .. At that time there was a hybrid approach between automation and manual adjustments .
Steve Hatze Petros was the NHL scheduling guru... not sure if he still is.

Historically, Montreal always seems to have the inside track when it comes to the NHL schedule…so perhaps Andlauer has some insight as to how get a more favourable schedule, after being part of the Montreal ownership group.
Prioritising the NHL schedule, in your building should be number one…. Other “events” should be secondary if at all possible.
I think there are other factors at play other than dates available, such as the national TV contract and the attractiveness of certain teams for the mass Canadian market.

Ironically, the NHL, being a business, should aim to give better schedule to smaller market teams to try to get more people into the seats. They don't have to worry about Leafs and Rangers - people will buy those tickets anyway.

Probably been said before but this schedule is absolutely trash.

Hard to stay interested so far and how do you keep any momentum….
