I actually think Roy might not be the worst idea as GM. He did it for a long time in Junior with the Quebec team. He did pretty much everything there drafting, etc... It would essentially be like a young GM being promoted in the NHL.

Also no guarantee that following a rebuild that they get talent that turns out to be better than what they have now. Detroit got Zadina, Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson in the drafts they were roughly worst to 6/7th worst overall in the standings.

Brazil will be 28 this year, Sorokin 30 so it depends on how long of a rebuild they want to do. If they go for a quick 2 year retool, makes sense to keep them otherwise they're better off trading them.


IMO a retool makes the most sense, keep Dobson/Barzal/Sorokin as those are the three things pretty much any team needs to contend (#1C, #1D, #1G)

Barzal, age wise was the best deal as it only takes him to 34. Horvat, has improved his skating, but it takes him to 36. Lou loves his goalies thus Sorokin signed til lie 37 or something.

I agree with the bottom end getting the kind of term he handed out. Not necessary.

IMO, a new GM more than likely retools. Unless the GM believes that he can move out half the roster.
Lee, Cziskas, Pageau should be fairly moveable, pending the return. Pelech, Pullock, Mayfield, a little more difficult with protection and their term. Barzal, Horvat, Sorokin, can be moved. teams need a good C and a couple need a #1 G. Dobson/Romanov, yes you'd like to keep them, but they are 1 and 2 years away from UFA. So, if they stay, they aren't making the PO again until they hit their 30's. They need to accept that if they stay, otherwise, they also move on.

That's 11 players right now. and 5 of them are Dmen. Are they turning that over within the next 15 months?

Isles will retool. Won't be going through a 30 year rebuild of top 5 picks. Would not doubt they are competing for top 5 in the east next year with a hungry semi young fast team lead by Roy.

A lot of NYI players ended up with numbers in the 30s due to call ups and retired numbers.

The HuGo strategy seems to be working fine for Montreal. Problem is, you have to find both a Hughes and a Gorton.
