He stayed with his man, which isn't a bad idea, but at some point let him go and drop back. Easily fixable stuff.

He did end up dropping back. He just did it so lackadaisically so he didn't get there in time.

Dropped back too late and got caught imo, oh well, he has some fine tendencies, fine tuning is normal.

Lazy coverage by Luke

I thought so too at first. But after seeing the replay it did look like he was just caught between a choice of covering the guy with the puck because the forward's stick broke or sticking with his man. Couldn't recover after that. Could've played it better though for sure but it's pre-season

Scoring has gone up 5 of the last 6 years in the NHL.

Hitting is almost gone from the game at least its very much a lost art.

Defensemen have to be a part of the offense today.

There no such thing as Defensive forward guys like Madden, Kris Drapper, Sami Paulson, don't exist any longer...Selke winners are now the guy that has the most points who is responsible.

The red line is gone, the trapezoid is in...

There is no such thing as "defensive hockey". At least not the way we used to know it.

Here is an article from the Hockey News, it was written and 2019.

And here is another good article on modern defensemen.

Defensive Hockey today is Miller Lite compare to the 90's Everclear grain alcohol. Today the NHL game is a lot closer to the college hockey I grew up with in the 90's. Not a problem, I enjoyed that but the idea of a defensive forward today is mostly a joke

Thank you for that Butch Goring but we have a hockey game going on here.

Also true. Wish he dropped back earlier, but yeah, tough decision there with a guy losing his stick.

I'm less forgiving about what was...or wasn't happening in front of the net

I was the opposite. I thought that at first but then on the replay it was clear he easily could've gotten back and covered but he was lazy getting back
