Still on LV payroll and has not found a club he wants to coach enough to give it up in the midst of a pandemic . He resides on PEI during the pandemic and there have been ZERO deaths and zero hospitalizations ...so take that into consideration and the fact he is still collecting a great paycheck....you might have some reasoning to consider while you speculate on his reluctance to move at this time .

Do you believe he has turned down offers?

Why did Vegas let him go?

Towards the end of the game there was a shot on the bench and Panarin had a heating pad on his lower back/left side. That's usually a sign of tightness. Spasms? No idea. But they even mentioned on the broadcast. You could tell last few games Panarin hasn't had same jump he had when he came back from his absence. Clearly he's battling something. Fox has looked a bit sluggish compared to how he looked up until about 4-5 games ago. Could just be a lot of minutes against some bigger forwards. Or he could also be banged up a bit.

But this brings up a bigger point. The vets that Quinn leans on so heavily are starting to look over-used or a bit banged up. Who knows. But it's clear that several of the vets - even Buch the last few games -- haven't been playing with the same jump and aggressiveness. Few of them are getting inside. Panarin, Zib, Kreider, Buch and Fox/Lindgren seem a bit worn down.

Point is, playing the kids isn't about getting them experience at this point. It's about getting through the next two weeks -- with a LOT of games. They must give more ice to the kids just to get through 7 games in less than 12 days. It's a bad time to have Fox looking tired and Panarin nursing a back injury and Zib not bull-rushing.
This right here.

I have no idea why they let him go....most likely the GM had a difference of opinion on something that he did not agree with.....something along those lines in all likelihood ? What teams have hired new coaches since he was released from LV ? Gallant is not starving by any means...he lives a good life on PEI surrounded by his /her huge family and such .

Sometimes it is not always about him...remember he has a wife and two recent grandchildren living close by at the current time ....maybe that weighs in his decision to coach in Minnesota? ?? ...he likely figures he has one shot left and wants to make the most of the best situation for him and them . Who knows if LV made the right decision ? If they win the Cup yes they did....but if they fall short again ???

I think Gerard /Turk will reappear again at some point , but for now , I think he is pretty happy sitting the Covid stuff out and playing golf watching his grand kids grow and collecting an NHL coaching salary without the burden is a bonus . Anyways...we will see what happens when his paychecks stop being deposited this Summer . Maybe he has a deal already in place with Seattle and he is milking LV for every last cent . LOL...I would love to see him in NY....it would be free tickets for sure !!!

Who knows what JD has up his sleeve....remember Gorton is not JD's hire either . So...we might have a huge shift in the off season as this club prepares for it's next step . We could have a new GM and that GM will hire his own coach . Drury likely is the guy next in line....who would be his favorites ? Knoblauch ?

The kids are all starting to find their groove, I honestly don’t know what people are upset about.

They’ve been producing too. Kravtsov/Kakko/Chytil had in points in all of our goals. What happened to only caring about development?
I swear I remember reading just a few weeks ago that certain vocal posters on this thread (and in DQ’s) were saying that they’d be ok with a Rangers loss if the kids played well and showed development. This game was exactly this (literally all of Lafreniere, Kakko, Kravtsov and Miller playing excellent games) and still they bitch and moan and complain.
Yup, saw many posts stating exactly that, in which I fully concur. Yet.....somehow, some way it continues.
3 things most important
The Kids developing
The kids developing and contributing
The kids developing, contributing towards the PO's.

I'll get crap for this but I'll say it anyways: Chris Krieder doesn't fit on this team. He is a relic when the Rangers were drafting to emulate the Bruins.

But, now the Rangers are turning into a puck posession, skill based team: he doesn't mesh at all outside of his speed.

Either the Rangers build a line around him with strong forechecking bruisers or you trade him away. I mean his best shift tonight was when he was playing a simple grinding style.
Why "should you" get crap for that? It was a fair evaluation.
Happy with Quinn 4th lining him, but then he gave him a pass because he felt Kreider would contribute to a win. Was like punishing a kid, for 5 minutes in the corner. I get it though.

Remember Kreids scored his 1st goals in PO's, before he even scored a regular season goal? Hes had good post seasons as well.

I'd bet anything "if we get in", that he really brings it. He should ALWAYS bring it, but I dunno, maybe he's not the superman that we all thought he was.

One thing Quinn certainly does not have in his OT arsenal is a Tony DeAngelo to throw out for his first trio . It probably is one of those times where he is really missed the most . Tony was explosive in the OT...hopefully once Lundkvist arrives we can have another guy that can lug the puck with success . It is such an asset in the 3 on 3 to have . In the meantime we just have to remember time is on our side and these are bumps along the way....No DeAngelo is just one of them and he was only going to be short term as it was ...

Kravs is a delight to watch on the offense . I'm already looking forward to next season . Maybe we should look at giving him a 7 year deal with some decent coin even if we have to part with Buch or Strome to accomplish that and the Kakko signing moving forward . We have to nail down some pieces long term for a 6 or 7 year stretch to cost control some assets .

PP is a sum of parts. Minus Covid impact, I take Mika over the last month or so who’s involved in a very high number of high danger chances, no question. Yeah, I shake my head at some of the misses but there’s no way I’m taking him off PP that is working so well. And Zibanejad’s will soon start to convert on the chances again, I promise.

I'm not sure the Rangers can make a run for the playoffs, but they will need Mika to convert to give them any chance.
The next question is, if he doesn't start converting, what does that mean going forward? Does the team ride with him being their 1C?
Maybe adding Kravy to his line will give him a spark. Gotta hope so!

Look I want Quinn gone but some of you are going tinfoil hat.

This roster clearly needs a motivator coach, it’s time to go from Renney to Tortorella
I'd like to see a coach with a good understanding of breakout, transition, & forecheck schemes. I don't think we have that.

I have no idea why he was let go either, obviously, but my point is that 99.9% of coaches in sports lose their jobs at some point, for various reasons. I don't believe that we as fans can ever fully grasp the exact value of a coach. I doubt GMs know, either.

I'm of the belief, that I've stated many times, that there is little difference between coaches in all of sports. There are some rare exceptions, but one could shoot holes in them, as well.

Certainly, Belichick and Trotz should be considered in the special category because of their respective track records. In baseball, a manager makes absolutely zero difference. That any of them makes a fortune amazes me. Eventually, I wouldn't be surprised if a computer ran a baseball team.

In all sports, player personnel is infinitely more important than a coach. A bad team can't win. No coach can change that. There are rare innovators. Whomever designed the Soviet Union teams of the 70's certainly qualify. They were playing puck possession before the NHL ever thought of it. Those teams changed the way the NHL plays.

I'm not a huge Quinn fan or detractor. All I know is that before this season began, most of us hoped that the signs of future greatness would be on display this season. They are, no matter how much some people complain. Most of the kids are headed in the right direction.

Yet, many of those that claimed that's what they wanted to see this season now are frothing with hatred that the team isn't great, yet. That's idiotic, to me.

Unless a team wins the Cup, there will be a huge group of fans angry that will blame the coach. Some will hate the coach even if the team wins the Cup.

It's a universal, and I suppose I should be used to it, but to me it's just weak thinking.

I try not to pile on players unnecessarily. But man, when Howden blew that 3-on-1 at the blueline I just about lost it. Can’t believe how bad that play was.
That plus the first period play where he got faked into another time zone make you wonder how they can keep playing this guy.

The shitty thing is that 3 on 1 could have decided the game. Not sure what the chances are of scoring in a 3 on 1 but I’m betting it’s damn close to at least 50/50. That was abysmal

Best takeaway from this game for me is that there’s no way the Islanders are winning the Cup. If the Rangers kids are that much of a handful for them they are not true contenders.

They can win the Cup, just like about 10 other teams. Basing the opinion on how one line performed against a team in one game would disqualify every team.

Watched the goal again, Chytil had time and space but no solid options, opted to try surprise the Iseles and hold the puck and maybe the Isles would back off into defend mode . Instead both islander players swarmed him and he lost the puck nearly instantaneously. Strome had flown the zone hoping for a lead pass but the quickness with which Chytil lost it meant he had no chance to get back and defend. Bad read. Really a bad play all around, don’t want to see any of those guys in 3 on 3 for a long time.

Replace Chytil with VK, and Strome with Buch and you have at least some semblance of a line. I’d also rather Trouba out there as our number 2 option for D man, he doesn’t randomly fumble the puck like Miller does 2-3 times a game

They're pretty below average offensively when Barzal isn't out there.

Their non Barzal offensive game plan is basically get the puck to the point, throw the puck towards the goalie with traffic in front of him and hope for the best. It's not bad per se, but it's not going to fly when they're constantly matched up with better teams who are better suited to defend this and have the horses to ensure that their lower lines don't have the puck as much as they normally do.

Yeah, they didn't look like a top team, in this series anyway. They had bursts of quality play but that was it.

Losing Lee hurt.

Every time the Rangers play them it looks like we can't handle the Clutterbuck/Cizikas/Martin line. Do other teams have this problem? Or is this group uniquely good against the Rangers?

They're elite defensively and the amount of obstruction they'll be allowed to get away with will be even higher when the playoffs start. There is no question there and being able to squeak out wins is a good quality to have in the playoffs.

But they really are untalented. They're a Barzal injury or cold streak away from being completely f***ed. If the success of your team really hinges on one player (well non goalie) you're going to be in for a rough ride in the playoffs unless that player just goes into monster mode.

I'm not Quinn's biggest fan, although I don't hate him like many on here. But I don't get the hate for him when the Rangers took 3 of 4 from the best team in the division. They played them hard two games straight. If we split with NJ, criticize all you want, but after these back-to-backs (especially where the kids have shined), I just don't get it.
