Yzerman, Poile, Sakic, Cheveldayoff, Armstrong, Waddell, and Sweeney (yes Gorton helped) are my first tier.

BriseBois, Lamoriello, Rutherford, and MacLellan are also guys who are held in high regard, and you can make the argument that they’re objectively better than Gorton.

Gorton, Bowman, and McCrimmon are about even I would say.

I believe that Edge once said he didn't hold Yzerman in high regard, unless I'm misremembering.

Ok, name 5 GMs who are better and have not made questionable moves.

I'd go with Yzerman, Poile and MAYBE Sakic over Gorton if his draft record wasn't so poor

Poile hasn't really gone all in except for Duchene and that didn't work. Always on the cusp but always afraid to pull the trigger. I think he's overrated. But agree with your point, Gorton ranks highly to me. Sakic has put together a great team, I don't know their pipeline but if he doesn't go all in over the next few years I'd be surprised.
