Post-Game Talk: Islanders 3 - Jets 2

Team seems to have taken a step back from their dog on a bone defense - especially on the back check.
Hope they get that back before PO's - they won't go far without it. Most of the D breakdowns I'm seeing are a direct result of poor support from the guys that are not getting back (line one stands out).
They are still creating offense so I'm not seeing what some might in the need to add - although it's always nice to be better I guess.
Still hoping they add a dman - preferably a guy that can defend (really well).
Anyway, need to get back on their horse - but no panic

I have to disagree. Ehlers made a couple of questionable plays that were noticable but he was a force most of the night driving his line. He was constantly retrieving pucks and creating plays for his line and on the PP. His line spent almost no time in their own zone at even strength.

I was much more disappointed with the Scheifele line. They generated almost nothing at 5v5 and has several turnovers with horizontal and diagonal passes around their blue line. Also a few failed exits. I was ready to throw a brick at my TV at one point. The Jets had a grand total of 4 shot attempts while Connor was on the ice at even strength. Four. Jets had 19 shot attempts with Ehlers on the ice at ES and he had 5 shots on goal himself at even strength.

This kind of sums it up for me.

As we have seen for a couple seasons, if Connor - Scheifele are not on, this team struggles.

3 losses in a row. Can't score. Stars taking long shifts.

As said earlier, they are playing nervous like they are waiting to see who gets traded.

I think we all know Samberg's worth to this team and to Pionk. This should be a cautionary sign when it comes to re signing Pionk to a big ticket long term contract. 20 games to go and the Stars are getting closer in the rear view, Jets need to string some wins together

Am I the only one who thinks Brock Nelson had a whale of a game in front of scouts and family, outplaying our #1 and #2C as a statement. He has to be #1 on the trade charts after this game.

Other than that the Jets seem to have taken their foot off the pedal. I can't single out a single player who's job was on the line that didn't play decent, but some of the key players had off games. Hopefully Kupari is ok.

Nice to see the PP click. Nice goal by Ehlers you win fans out of people like me with those kind of finishes around the net.

Next question has to be about the ability of this group to score 5 on 5.

Also I think the defense is still a big question mark. Not a great game from De Melo and I still wonder if there is room for another RD to add some pace at the deadline. Stan wasn't terribly out of place, I saw some good outlets but there's a dropoff without Samberg that is noticeable.

Chevy and the brass are going to be engaged in a lot of discussions the next few days. Especially with Dallas closing the gap down the stretch.

This game proved two things ... Jets need to sign Samberg long term asap and they need to get a another decent tough D man. Lowry cannot be fighting every battle. Also in case of an injury to one of the top 4 D .... Jets 5 6 7 D will not be able to handle big minutes in a top 4 D situation in the playoffs.
Three losses by a total of 3 goals is no need to panic the sky is not falling.
Dallas's record in the last 10 games is the exact same as the Jets 7-2-1.

While i agree about Samberg's worth to the team Pionk having to play with Stanley up on the 2nd pair i think had more effect. I have given Stanley the benefit of the doubt for most of the season but i'm sorry Stanley is a 6th defenseman at best and going into the stretch run i would love to see him more of our 7th .

Kyle Connor is a shell of his former self after the 4 Nations Cup and does not excel vs heavy teams. This is not a surprise but is frustrating.

Guys I am on the road and was box score watching and it appears Samberg didn’t play? Any word on what the issue is?
