Is this the most uneventful NHL season you've witnessed?

Meanwhile the tightest playoff race ever is happening in the West with all of two teams realistically eliminated, and there's 8 Cup contenders in the East, all of whom will be killing each other in April.

Sure, there's complaints to be had, but there's plenty of good stuff going on.

Thank you!

The East might be bad, but the teams who are in it will make the playoffs quite interesting. The West always speaks for itself come that time too.

I agree completely with the OP, this is the least excited i've been about in the NHL in many years.

"Not only is there a lack of individual production but there is a lack of individual rivalries as well." so I guess players that are in the top 10 in scoring that are really close to one another means production is down.

"Basically there is just nothing going on that's exciting for the player vs player debates really." Yet everyone in the top 10 of scoring is close to one another.

Basically I see this, since there isnt a clear cut number one player in the league this year, statistically, that some how equates to nothing is going on.

Jesus christ, HF really has some stupid arguments, complaints, opinions, but for me, this thread has brought out the worst.

and for the record watching my Devils play is painful but its still hockey and i still love it. anyone who complains there is "too much defense" in the league are just the worst.

These new divisions and schedules are the reason for a lot of the poor play and disinteresting campaign.

One day your team could be playing a close rival, then the next two games be plying teams out of conference, then a game back in conference, then out etc..too much traveling and too many randomly odd matchups make for low scoring "tiring" hockey.

I think the league was much better when you had smaller divisions and played your conference opponents much more. The scoring was higher and the races for the playoffs were epic.

not really a fan of the new divisions either, but it does make the playoffs a lot more fun. the season isnt exactly meant to be the exciting part anyway, 82 games over 6 and a half months is a grind. the playoffs are the best in sports and its not even close.

I'd personally like to see no divisions, just two conferences with two play-in games (7 v 10, 8 v 9). I made a thread on it the other day. I think it'd make things very interesting all around.

Next to the 03-04 season this is probably the worst season I've ever seen. No star has stepped up. Scoring is too low. Crosby is having an off season.

It's funny, people bring up 03-04 as a boring season, yet it was by far the most exciting season of my life as a Flames fan, and this season has been the most exciting in 6 years for Flames. Guess us fans in Calgary need the rest of the league to have a few more boring seasons here...

I think a lot of people were sore that small market teams like you guys and our Lightning took out all the big market favorites. :P

Seriously though it was awesome how the Flames took out 3 division winners in a row (and almost a 4th in the end in an epic Final series). What's boring about that? And the Lightning were the only skill team to get through all the clutch and grab so for those who hated it they had the antithesis to cheer for.

Agree in general with the op. NHL has generally lost it's 'keep you on the edge of your seat', snarl.

I'm sure it's an exciting year for fans who cheer for teams that are doing better than in past years, though.

The false parity of the loser point, and the dropping Canadian dollar forecasting impending cap doom, have created gridlock. Sellers aren't selling, buyers aren't buying, we arent seeing separation in the standings, skill isn't getting more skill, and things are just tight. Won't open up.

It's obviously wrong. The playoffs look to be set in the East. Maybe Florida could make a push but they'd need to win a few games to pass the Bruins, unlikely IMO.

Anyway, the trade deadline is in less than a month (with about 30 games to go) and we already know who are going to be buyers and sellers in the East, which is awesome. Trade deadline day will be a good one for once.

i think what is broken league wide is the officiating its horrendous alot of nights and makes teams play hesitant and makes game not fun to watch .League need to address this imo. Every fan from every team can agree i think that some calls are extremely bad even if they are for or against their most or least favorite team
