Is this team built for a stanley cup

I believe we have the players to win the cup. It's all about when the players will click with each other.

I'm not gonna vote, as I think you can't tell, how a SC winner is built. I mean sure, you can make a difference between teams like PIT, BOS, CHI and teams like CBJ, NYI. But out of the 16 teams qualifying for the playoffs, it gets very hard to tell.
One of last years finalists had very questionable Offense, the other team had defensemen nobody knew before the playoffs.
I will say this though, if the NYR don't win the cup it's certainly not because nobody is willing to drop the gloves. I mean, what are goons gonna do? Punch the other team into letting us score? It'd much rather be bc of a joke of a PP and a perhaps inconsistent Top-6.

Do we have enough grit to go all the way? Yes, you don't need goons to have a gritty team and, though we aren't as gritty as last year's team, we still are one of the toughest teams in the conference.

My biggest concern is bottom 6 depth.

These boards are pretty good when we're winning. Never over-exited, but usually realistic. We lose in game in a SO, and the sky falls.

Does this fanbase have enough grit for a hockey season?

hahaha hell no.

But the team does. Maybe not based solely on grit, but all the components are here. We just need everyone to step up their game and produce to their full potential. That, along with a healthy dose of confidence and we can win.

This team is not built for a cup as it is, mostly because of Torts' system and Richards under performing. You need a team that controls the puck and knows how to establish and run an offense above all else to ice a championship worthy team. The Rangers do not have that.

That's it, I'm going to jump through the internet and punch all of you voting no right in the nutsack.

No.

This team lacks a killer instinct. They not only let other teams come back but they make sure the other team dominates when they do so.

Our three key players (Nash, Gaborik, Richards) don't do anything special consistently. Richards has been playing like dog ****, Gaborik will do something significant once or twice in a game, and Nash is probably the only one that's been contributing a lot of offensive chances.

Our PP..is worse than it was last season, and everyone is pointing at Richards for it. Again, he's been dog ****, but even with a sub par Richards, there is 0 reasons for this team to be 30th (**** that 29th ********, we're 30!) on the PP! You live by the sword, you die by the sword. Torts' reluctance in firing Sully or getting a PP coach is going to keep us from raising the cup.

I find it amazing how this poll would be 80% yes before the season and probably 80% yes after the Tampa game. A couple of bad games where we got 3 points (looked bad admittedly) and it's 50/50. Sounds like a lot of people are jumping off the bandwagon.

Yes, we can go all the way. Half the team is playing below average and we are still in a play off position. Can you imagine what we look like once Richards, Stepan, Kreider and Boyle start playing the way we know them?

I am just disappointed with Richards since he has done nothing to justify him being our 1st line center. He has a bunch of assists, but that doesn't say much. Look at the assist he got against the Islanders... He did not pass the puck, he missed one-on-one with Nabokov, twice, before Gaborik took advantage of it. Richards needs to be better. Also on the powerplay, it would be nice if he would pass rather than skating the puck into the O-zone.

We can win the Cup. Are we likely to? Not sure. If we get to the play-offs, we can maybe get one or 2 rentals and go all the way. Last year the Stanley Cup final had a 6-seed and 8-seed so who knows...

Some of you guys are crazy the ramgers made it to game 6 of the ecf! If Someone would have told me la would of won the cup i would have called you crazy they couldnt buy a goal, in hockey all you have to do is get in to have a chance at winning the cup, its the beauty of the game.

I'd rather him skate the puck into the zone rather than dump it from the red-line just so the opposing team's PK can pick it up.

Believe that!

But in all reality, the PP should be... Let Rick Nash build up speed from our defensive zone, get him the puck when he hits a head of steam at the red line, let him gain the zone with speed and size. How difficult is that?

:laugh::handclap:

Some fans have nothing better to do than take the teams temperature after every game and try to figure out proactive moves to get the team 'right'.

No I don't believe that they are...

-The powerplay is an abomination... the past two seasons all it has done for this team is kill all momentum, lead to short-handed chances against and waste two minutes off the clock. There is no team in the league that can be considered a championship contender with a powerplay ranked 29th in the league.

-Passing and transition is just not on par with some of the other teams I've seen so far this year. They are never really in sync with eachother (might have something to do with the constant line juggling)

-I'm sure it will be a touchy topic, but in my opinion having Boyle as your third line center is basically saying you don't plan on getting any offense out of your third line. Sure the he may be good at take draws in the defensive zone and pinning the puck in the zone on the forecheck, but he has absolutely no awareness or offensive touch and doesn't make any players around him better.

-Its been a phrase I've seen thrown around here a few times but I completely agree with...this team lacks any kind of killer instinct and their attention to detail doesn't seem to be as sharp as it was last season.... Up by 3 goals in boston, up by 2 goals against the Isles..... these games should have ended up going to shootout.

-I've liked Torts as a coach up until this season. How can we keep doing the same things on the powerplay as we've done the past 2 years, There is too much talent on the team to let this go on any longer.... Why does he feel the need to change the lineup after this team went on a 3 game winning streak? What does he see in guys like Boyle/Bickel

No.

Look at the 2 games on TV today. BUF PIT CHI LA. Look at the top 6 of all those teams save for BUF although they do have the league's leading scorer (Vanek) and IMO would be a good team if they could play a lick of defense. LA won it all last year. Chicago is absolutely tearing it up and hasn't lost in regulation yet.. and we all know about PIT.

Watching both these games (not just highlights on GameCenter) today has opened my eyes even further as to how slow, offensively inept, and painful to watch this Rangers team is.

Malkin/Crosby/Kunitz/Neal/Dupuis > Nash/Richards/Gaborik/Stepan/Hagelin AINEC
Toews/Kane/Hossa/Sharp/Frolik > Nash/Richards/Gaborik/Stepan/Hagelin AINEC
Carter/Richards/Brown/Kopitar/Gagne> Nash/Richards/Gaborik/Stepan/Hagelin

That being said.. the defense and goaltending is there IMO. For the Rangers to even have a shot at a cup the following needs to happen:

1. They need to upgrade their top 6 if Richards, Stepan and co. don't either A) stop playing like dog **** or B) are just incapable of creating offense
2. They need to mesh and have 4 solid lines that are capable of being productive
3. They need to fix the mother ****ING power play

The best defense is a good offense

There will be tweaks at the deadline and rentals swapped in exchange for prospects as that piece or two to put the team over the top, is tried to be found. But yeah, two lines with 40 goal scorer talent, and deep down the middle makes any team a solid contender.

I said it earlier...IMO you ain't gonna win a Championship with a bunch of American College kids..Herbie did it in 1980 but that was a Miracle.. Im not giving up on Krieder and Miller but its obvious neither bring much at this point...Hags-Stepan & Cally are the only safe ones IMO.. For now..Also The softest D corp in hockey right here at MSG..I think I smell a trade..:sarcasm:

I don't think they're Cup contenders and it probably comes down to Torts. Every single game, it feels like they have to claw their way to a win and pray Hank has a good enough game to make up for the rest of the team's mistakes. Or on the flip side, they'll score 6 goals in 1 game. But that happens maybe once a month. There's no in between and that's what kills this team year in, year out. Also the lack of heart thus far this season is extremely disheartening.
