Is There A Spot On This Team For Robertson?

He's moderately tenacious and not fast at all, but he really suffers because he doesn't seem to be able to find the 'pockets'.

Mitch, Matthews, Willy, Domi and Knies can find the pockets. For a shooter, he can't seem to isolate himself and end up at the right place.

It'd be nice to have another guy for the PK but this isn't it.
We had him out there penalty killing (in practice) because I do think that he can be a penalty killer for us with his speed and his tenacity,” Berube said. “It’s something I want to keep working on with him and him to keep building."

I could see him being useful as long as he doesn't cheat and get running around too much.

Does he think he can be a PKer? Some guys are just goal junkies, they want to shoot / score. I cant see this guy who scored 60+ in the Jr.'s. All of a sudden say hey, I want to block shots for a living, because blocking shots is not painful, not me...He might have the skill but does he have the will? I don't see it.

The question is... will he get another chance here? If he does, he better put the biscuit in the basket.... or his time might be over. This is a results orientated game, and if he isn't scoring he just isn't as useful as some other players.

It looks like he draws back in tonight. Take advantage of your opportunities... in the past, it's almost been a lock when he comes back into the lineup that he scores.

He has the will. Desire is the least of his worries. Can't be worse than Holmberg the PK pylon.

Love to move on from him and pick up a centre / rw for the third line. Fast and gritty, but a little more D savvy. Third line of McMahon Domi Jarnkrok. Not bad, but rather have a bigger grittier than Jarnkrok. In the Bobby Mac mould on the right side. Like say Taylor Raddysh. $1M hit, 6' 3" right shot. I kinda liked him in Chicago. Caps just signed him in July though. But only a 1 year deal

Think Caps would bite on say Nicky Robby and a Dewar or Jarnkrok Package.?Maybe throw in the # 6 from the Lily deal? I would like to keep Jarnkrok as he is kind of a Swiss army knife.
I'm askin here.

Lines:
Kneiss Matthews Marner
Patch Taveras Nylander
Mac Domi Raddysh
Lorentz Kampf Holmberg/ Reeves

Tonight's game is great example why he does not stick in the line up, he makes every play overly complicated, he might have the lowest Hockey IQ in the League. He has an all world shot but that is it.
Looked really good tonight.

Looked really good tonight.

Based on his inability to get the puck deep, his inability to keep the puck, him being physically over matched, his inability to create offence or his ability to be incredibly ineffective? The way he currently plays, the guy is just not a NHLer. This is a case of a guy having one of the best shots on the team and has zero other tangible skills that tell you he deserves a roster spot. The only reason why he is still on the roster is because he has no options left.

Watch him with an analytical mind set, he puts so much effort into his game and nothing happens, he is like a black hole of things happening. There is no one in the league that gives as much effort and gets as few tangible results, he is the human equivalent of a summer tire spinning on ice. I can see why people root for him but if we are being honest, spinning tire on ice. If Nylander had Robertsons nightly effort, he'd be better than Matthews.

The best thing this guy can ever learn is less is more in his case, stop carrying the puck, get lost, allow your linemates to carry the puck and do the board work. You have a great shot and nothing else, so show case what you do well and let other people do the grunt work. Your a shooter, you are not a deeker or a grinder or a board guy, so stop doing what makes you look ineffective...

He's playing well for him and significantly better than last year. Effort isn't a problem with Robertson.

I just don't think he has the size to play the team's new style.

I did like him in the Seattle game. Had energy but wasn’t sticking to the play, made a few nice plays in transition, lost the puck in a few key areas but recovered to break it up.

I thought he didn't play a bad game, but it just wasn't enough. For an undersized guy, who is mediocre at best in the Dzone, he needs to make a bit of a statement offensively. Too many lost pucks, not getting the puck deep enough at times... those type of details need to be fixed.

As a self-proclaimed Robertson fan, he's just running out of chances here. The puck needs to go in the net, that's all there is to it.
