I'm not trying to be an over confident fan when I say this, but I can't picture any scenario that the Penguins are caught in the race for the division crown now leading the Devils by 12pts with 18-20 games remaining for other teams. This all but solidifies a 2 seed.

Does anyone think otherwise? And if so, who has the best chance catching us?

Pens would need to lose about 10 straight and Devils win 10 straight.

So yeah, barring a miracle it looks like the Pens are in a good spot to win the division this year.

Never say never, but I would say they'll probably win it barring a major losing streak. NJ will get Brodeur back soon they'll probably improve in the next few weeks.

The real question is will they have any easier of a time with the 1-2 spot than with the #4? The way it is now they could pretty much play anyone but Florida or Buffalo. I kind of deep down want them to play Philly again just to erase last year. If you can't beat one team you don't deserve to beat anybody.

No! it' ain't over 'til it's over!

I'm not sure if there's a hint of sarcasm there or not, but this. The Devils have one game in hand so if they win that puts them 10 points back. If they go on a 5 game winning streak and we hit a 3-4 game losing streak, that makes it a close race. Point being, anything can happen.

No sarcasm. If it reads as sarcasm it's only because I hate even thinking it's over with 20 games left.

Of course ANYTHING could happen. But just watch the 8-10 bubble teams struggle to even gain 3-4 points over the 6-8 teams to get into the playoffs. It's going to be a near-miracle if the division isn't won by the Penguins with a 12pt cushion now.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!

I know this is a quote from a movie or television (I can't remember what from exactly) but it just bugs the crap out of me, being a History major.....

Unless we hit a cold spell right as the devils get hot I can't see us not winning the division this season. I still think the conference is very much in reach as well. Who knows maybe Anaheim and Chicago cool down and we win the presidents trophy?

Didn't know Germans were from Japan.

I would say as long as the Penguins don't go on any long losing streak they'll get the division.
