Is the Golden Knights' problem Jack Eichel?

Just a reminder Sabres fans that are trying to dunk on Eichel, your team isn't actually yet good or even really better than when Eichel was there. You also undoubtedly lost your best player, and a player that isn't replaceable. May not be the time for some of these comments.

If you guys are better than Vegas in a year or two and Eichel is playing bad then, that would be the time. I'm not sure its really dunk-worthy that Eichel hasn't been at his best after coming off a neck surgery and that he's the one you should really be looking to blame on a team that had plenty of problems before him and makes a lot of enemies around the league for how they go about their business.
What a weird flex. Mainly because even though there was a small minority salty fans before, most viewed the situation as treated equally horribly by both sides, until Eichel’s post-game interview at his first game back. Sabres fans know Eichel because we’ve had him for 6 years.

I’m pretty sure you’re not even a Vegas fan so you just came in to be condescending.

For good measure- we don’t need to dunk on Eichel. He does it to himself.

I am not a Sabres fan but honestly trading Eichel was addition by subtraction.

And they got some good assets out of it.

Hope Eichel reads this, bro

It’s bad timing. A guy rushing back from major surgery is not who you want to bank your season on. It’s unfair to the player and the team. That said, there wasn't much of a choice. Can I coo out and say ‘bad timing, bad luck’?

Not seeing the relevance of him coming off a bad injury to this thread.

The fact is that, today, Eichel is massively underperforming not only his contract but also the opportunities the team is feeding him. That can change moving forward, but today, he’s very likely the worst 1C in the league. That’s a problem for a team that was hoping to contend for the cup, and indubitably one major factor in Vegas’ fall from the playoff picture.

Oh. Thanks Dad. Where would we be without your sage wisdom??

I found their problem.

This is a little bit of a reach, unless we just discount Seattle, Chicago and Arizona completely. I'd give him an offseason and training camp before I make a final judgement on him.

Yes, that makes me a neutral. I hate what Vegas has done over the years starting with Shipachyov, LTIR, and Dadonov. I also see all these Sabres fans in multiple main board threads trying to make Vegas not making the playoffs as some referendum on Eichel. Utterly ridiculous.

Well Vegas certainly didn’t pay the price they did for him to have 21 pts in 31 games. Keep in mind we have their first round pick and there’s a bit of a drop off in this draft after pick 15. Especially since we have too many LHD to count.

I know we discussed this an another thread but I think Tage Thompson would have done a little better than -2 tonight

No. Granted, I'd hoped he'd be better by now but the entire team is out of sorts offensively. Eichel has looked good but hasn't gelled very well with any of his linemates just yet.

But the cracks in DeBoer's systems, game prep, and strategies are as deep as they've ever been. It's the coaching staff. And in no small part our dipshit powerplay coach Steve Spott, who should have been fired in his first year with the team. Vegas has been in the bottom half of the league on the powerplay every year Spott has been employed by the team.

The Vegas front office has made a lot of questionable decisions. How they handled Shipachyov was not one of them. Shipachyov signed a two way contract and was on full notice that the two-way clause would likely be needed to handle the bulk of contracts they'd be getting out of the expansion draft. He was briefly sent down to the AHL to figure out to get under the max active players and bring up him, Tuch and Theodore.

Shipachyov's reaction to something he was told would happen was to go to one single practice with the Chicago Wolves where he refused to listen to a single direction given to him by the coaches, then he refused to report to the next training camp session, then Vegas gave him the option to be traded elsewhere and he demanded to go back to Russia instead. And all this was after generally being obstinate at the VGK training camp.

He then bitches to the media that Vegas mistreated him and that's all everyone needed to still claim that they f***ed him over 5 years later.

I found it very unprofessional by McPhee. Someone else should’ve been sent down, not Shipachyov. He had every right to be mad.

Besides, he had plenty of interest around the league. I’m pretty sure he was not signing with a team that didn’t guarantee him an NHL spot.

Who, pray tell? Vegas had all one way contracts on the team at the time. They had to make moves just to get Theodore and Tuch on the team and would have made another move to get Ship in there which was always the plan. In fact, he was probably going to be the first call up as soon as they moved a single contract since Vegas had no idea how good their forwards would be and they had a lot more defensemen on one way deals so Theodore could have been held in Chicago for longer.

Shipachyov was guaranteed a spot. He just needed to sit tight and let the team clear up space. Ship wasn't going to shrivel up and die if he had to play a couple preseason AHL games before Vegas made space for him. I mean if you want to argue that the team should have cleared contracts faster, fine, but Shipachyov was signed with a two-way clause for this very purpose. He knew this was a possibility when he signed with the team. He had advanced notice that it would happen and his reaction was to throw a tantrum.
