Is Sheldon Keefe The Issue?

I dont, I said before the season started we would be a bubble playoff team and 25% of the way through we are a bubble team.

Crazy rumors on the interweb/YouTube, Leafs Edmonton working on a deal that involves Marner and McDavid as the main pieces. CRAAAAAZY!!!! Clearly there is a desperation in the fan base to start those kind of rumors... kinda tells you where both teams are...
 
Keefe should do what he should have done long time ago. Get the 3 11 AAV lines on 3 different lines

Matthews Line
Tavares Line
Marner Line

Let them drive their own line and create match up problems for the opposition. Roll the 3 lines with the line thats going strong gets more TOI; I think on average the TOI will balance itself out over the 82 game schedule.

The notion that a 11 AAV player needs another 11 AAV player to prop up their production is stupid. its a team game not individual glory

I want the 11 AAV guys to make their line mates better as they took the lion's share of the cap so now they have to make the lower AAVs contribute above their contracts.

Keefe HAS TO make this adjustment. I saw a glimpse of this when Babcock was coaching he had:

Hyman-Matthews-Brown
JVR-Bozak-Marner
Komarov-Kadri-Nylander

and then for a bit before kadri got suspended I think we ran
XXX-Matthews-Kapanen (forget who XXX was Johnsson?)
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
XXX-Kadri-Nylander
4th line

Now that the 3 ELCs have gotten paid and Leafs have added the 11 AAV UFA (Tavares); Leafs HAVE TO MANUFACTURE THEIR OWN DEPTH with high AAV players driving their own lines and making their line mates better.

There is no other way!

Stacking lines makes oppositions' lives easier to defend against the Leafs

The Montreal debacle, the CBJ debacle, the Fla debacle ... so on and so on... maybe he is a great coach , maybe the players love him but at a certain point , i dont care who you are eventually anyone starts to tune out the person in power once they have heard their shtick a few hundred times ... a new voice is needed ... Coach Q
 
He can be an issue at times (subpar performance and injuries serving as some of the others).
 
Keefe has demonstrated that he lacks the ability to make meaningful adjustments in a reasonable time frame.

I mean the team is a mess asset wise which isn’t his fault.

But I do believe that he needs to be assigned a portion of the blame for not getting the full potential out of this team. He’s had ample time with this group. Coaches have expiry dates. He’s likely at or beyond his.

Listening to Bruce Boudreau on Overdrive the other day he really sounds like he wants to coach again.

Would just be so awesome to have a Leafs superfan as HC. Guy openly admits to being a Leafs fan while coaching other teams.

But I doubt Shanny or Tre would go for it.

I think I read that article to. It was done with the sole intention of trolling Oiler fans. There was nothing real it in.

There probably isn't a coach the Leafs could hire that would be able to wrangle the egos in our dressing room. Keefe certainly can't do it and that makes him a problem, but I think the coddling of our stars is an organizational problem and choosing the coach as a scapegoat is just making excuses for the guys who are the real problem.

Anything that trolls Oiler fans , is gold star journalism... Marner having a no trade and the tire fire that is Edmonton is makes the rumor 100% bullshit...

Keefe couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

Embarrassing losses in the play-in-round of 24 to the 3rd lowest scoring team in the NHL to Columbus, and then the epic failure of an All CDN Div where Leafs played all games at home in a bubble, and then falling to Montreal (who wouldn't even have qualified for the playoffs on points if not for realignment and new rules) while up 3 games to 1 should have been the final straw.

These failures of the Leafs turned then into a laughingstock around the league and should have 1 million % been the end of both Keefe and Dubas and proven definitively unqualified.

I'm with you the Montreal loss was among the most embarrassing losses the Leafs fans have faced in their history, and makes my blood boil to this day and likely for the next several decades. Leafs had the perfect situation where only Montreal, Winnipeg and/or Edmonton stood in the way of a Final 4 appearance and NEVER EVER likely going to be an easier path to the Cup.

What makes things even worse for me is that coach Barry Trotz was right there for the taking, after coming off a Stanley Cup win.. So while a fumbling stumbling Keefe is being outcoached against CBJ and Montreal, NYI hire Barry Trotz who inherits a non playoff team, who just handed the Leafs John Tavares, and he coaches his team to 8 playoff round wins and the final 4 in back to back seasons before falling to Cup Champs TB.

We could’ve had Laviolette if we weren’t so married to our current moron of a coach. I think Sheldon called a timeout and lost his mind on the bench once and that was against Detroit during that insane 10-7 game.

Not the biggest issue, no. You can't keep firing the coaches. We thought Babs was the issue, turns out he wasn't. The core has needed a shakeup since the Montreal series. The core is rotten. We were railing on Babs, now we're railing on Keefe. The core is the issue.
 
Is he "the issue"?
No. I wish it were that simple. We would be in so much better shape if that were the case.

Keefe is part of the problem sure, but everything starts at the top. There isn’t enough accountability in this organization and our core 4 bring in a ton of money for this franchise so ultimately they likely won’t ever be traded. Unfortunately our franchise makes too much money and the fan base is so large they there is always going to be a contingent of the fanbase that will suppport this team no matter what and love off the stars. To MLSE Money trumps winning period. I know some will say that they will make money no matter what, yeah to an extent that’s true but with Marner, Matthews, Nylander and Tavares, playoffs are almost guaranteed every year and the attention they will garner with those stars is going to lead to a lot of money again. It’s way less risk then to try and build a winning team by trading them, not signing them replacing etc.

Could have also had Trotz (plus some others) if the Leafs moved away from Keefe a couple of seasons ago.

marner is 3rd in 5 on 5 scoring behind willie and auston ... and 1 point ahead of morgan ... for 11 mill it is not good enough in my view ....

need a coach to hold these guys accountable

Instead of holding Marner accountable he just makes up something false and demands praise for it.

Keefe tinkers in a way that doesn’t seem to be solving any issues, has problems implementing a system that his players stick with and motivational issues like starting games, periods and finishing games seem to be long standing problems. So it doesn’t really seem like he’s doing that much to add to a group that just does whatever.

How many more "Too Many Men" penalties before people recognize that Keefe has zero clue in running a bench? Team is never prepared and appear to have tuned him out.

Keefe may not be the biggest problem with this line-up, but he offers no solutions.
