Is Seth Jones A Locker Room Cancer?

Speaking of the Rangers, I find myself wondering if a Zibanejad deal might be of interest to both teams. One of the few deals out there that probably wouldn't take any salary retention.

I'd think I'd do that. Mika is 31 years old, could be a potential linemate for Bedard or if nothing else help the second line and provide forward depth so opponents can't entirely key in on Bedard.

Both Mika and Jones have 5 years left on their contract but Mika is 1M less.

Maybe a change of scenery does both well, but I will admit I haven't watched much of the Rangers to know what his problem is. However, he did have 72 points in 81 games last year so I would think it's more of a coaching and culture issue given his age.

Probably but not sure if they’d want a $9.5 million second pair guy with fox already established.

Borgen is a UFA after this year so in theory SJ is an upgrade to him for the next 5 years.

Miller is an RFA after this year and currently at a 3.8M cap hit. Are they going to be able to extend him? Keep in mind Lafrenière jumps from a 2.3M cap hit to 7.45M next season.

They also have Braden Schneider who has been good on the right side

Rather keep jones than take on Mika. At least jones was playing at a high level this year before injury. Mika is useless when not scoring and he does half of it on the PP and he is only scoring at a pace 10 points less per 82 than jones. Gross. If his contract was shorter or a million less I’d consider it. I think it makes the hawks worse though.

If only #4 could eliminate the 3-5 absolute braindead defensive plays each game.

90% of the time, he's doing the right thing - but the other 10% really hurts the team and momentum. He's been in the league long enough and has the toolbox (questionable IQ at times) to NOT make the mistakes he's consistently making. He's too careless at times for what he should be bringing to the team every shift. And for the love of god, will someone tell him to skate the f***ing puck when opposition gives him 50ft of open ice instead of the Pejorative Slured 90ft stretch pass.

Scratch him for a game or two - set a standard and hold people accountable for beer league mistakes.

Personally, I'm less worried about a few braindead plays here and there. He's never been a high IQ guy so that's just going to happen.

What irks me is the constant lack of effort. What is even worse than that is when he makes a bad play, he's the guy putting in the least amount of effort to try and recover from HIS mistake.

Dreger reporting teams calling on Jones

Deadline or off-season at latest this probably happens

Mentioned we aren’t even shopping him which suggests this is gonna get a return too
I mean, Trouba with no salary retained got a return. Trouba is significantly worse than Jones. GMs around the league aren’t always the brightest.

And that Hollywood like look to the sky he gives thinking "why me" after his laziness leads to a puck in the net.

Why on earth would he not be shopping him? Has KD lost his mind?

Hopefully his list he'd waive for is like 20 teams deep by now. All the Hawks have done is lose in his four seasons here lol.
Best hockey the Hawks have played was with him out. The writing is on the wall.

Dallas could be a very real option. They dump off Dumba here, and 1.5mil of retention. They’ll have the space once Seguin goes on LTIR when they’re done accruing cap.

Kyle is just playing hard to get.

Awesome to see teams interested. As I've said before, GMs covet RHDs with size. Especially ones who puts up points and can play 24 minutes a night. Like GMs give a shit that a guy is signed for 5 more years. Half the GMs in this league will be shitcanned by then anyways.

And I don't see Jones wanting to stay. He hated losing before this season, and is probably furious that the Hawks are actually lined up to be in a worse spot, standings wise, this year, even after adding in the offseason. I doubt he wants to endure another year of this if he has better options.

Seems like the writing is on the wall. Davidson made those public comments about Jones future. Athletic mentioned he wouldn’t be hard to move. Now this.

A Daily Faceoff article looking at Brock Nelson destinations yesterday mentioned Dallas desperately wants a top 4 RHD. Considering he wanted to play in Texas before, has ties to the area it seems like a match made in Heaven.

Just look at the other options daily has available. Ristolainen? Mike Matheson? Savard?

Like there’s no one even close to Jones caliber, of course teams are interested in trying to push their team over the edge.

Those other options are laughable as you noted. Matheson has played mostly LD to my knowledge.

Risto with two more years. The fact they went for Dumba and Lybushkin in the off-season is telling.

SJ was able to move Burns to Carolina in his mid 30s with a handful of years left. Big RHD with pedigree are always gonna have takers. They retained a few million but nothing crazy. Expecting much the same. In reference to Dallas, not only do they not have anyone like Jones now, they don’t have a top end RHD prospect coming. It’s really the obvious hole in that lineup for the foreseeable future.

If the Stars want to get over the hump in the playoffs he would definitely be helpful. They are definitely light in the right side.

Yeah I've been saying Dallas as well for some time now. That was the other team Jones was angling for at the time of trade too.

It's just probably me being a sceptic, but part of me wonders if this isn't a planted thing by KD and co. They could be pushing for Jones to ask a trade, have to play around that stupid NMC.

Probably not right, as you guys point out there has to be real interest around the league.

Well whatever, I just want him gone. It will be the happiest trade in a long long long time for me, even if it's for like future considerations or something.

If we got someone legit back for Jones that would blow my mind. Let's hope the GM's were all watching Seth in Nashville last night and not his previous 100 showings.
