Good old fashioned jinx thread.

Had 22 goals and 57 points in 42 games heading into his next game on January 13, 2024 (43 goals/111 points/82 games)

Has 19 goals and 50 points in 62 games since (25 goals/66 points/82 games).

With 1 goal and 6 points in 13 playoffs games sandwiched in between.

Nowhere near top 5 for nearly a whole calendar year now.
Reverse jinx post? We'll take it. He's back.

He has 13 in his last 11 and 18 in 22 on the year. He’s just not a top 5 C, not in this league where the spots ahead of him get filled up by McDrai, MacKinnon, and Matthews without blinking.

Exactly. And then when you’ve got Barkov dominating, Crosby not really slowing down, Hughes breaking out, etc, it’s extremely hard to take that 5th spot.

This thread was started in January of 2024. And it was arguable then.

No it wasn’t. He’s never been in the discussion for being a top 5 center in the league. The question is just how close to being a top 5 center he was. At the time, he was arguably top 10. There are at least 6 centers who I can’t even see an argument for Pettersson ever being better than

Putting up a 110 point pace from December 2021 to January 2024 is meaningless I guess.

None of the two Jacks have even reached 100 points and if it weren’t for Pettersson struggling for the last 50 games he would’ve had 2 consecutive 100 point seasons playing with *checks notes* Mikheyev, Lafferty, Beauvillier, Hoglander, a slumping Lindholm, Podkolzin, and Kuzmenko as his linemates.

This was my point. In January 2024, EP was in conversations with players like Barkov and Matthews. One can argue he shouldn't have been, much like the poster you quoted, but he doesn't seem to get he's doing just that.
