Ottawa seems to be stuck in this cycle of building hype in the summer into disappointing during the season.

But perhaps people just shouldn't hype up Ottawa before they actually show something concrete.

But they show the hype is real at the end of every season when the games don't matter for them anymore!

On a warm summer's evenin' on a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler, we were both too tired to sleep
So we took turns a starin' out the window at the darkness
'Til boredom overtook us and he began to speak

He said, "Son, I've made a life, out of readin' people's faces
And knowin' what their cards were by the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey I'll give you some advice"

So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet and his face lost all expression
Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy, you gotta learn to play it right"

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away and know when to run
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealing's done

Every gambler knows that the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away and knowing what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner and every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep

And when he finished speakin', he turned back towards the window
Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness the gambler, he broke even
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away and know when to run
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealing's done

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away and know when to run
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealing's done

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em

I never bought into the Ullmark hype. He's closer to an average goalie than an elite one. Yes I'm aware of the Vezina but a bunch of guys would have been a Vezina candidate on that Boston team that was firing on all cylinders.

Luckily for the Sens all the teams in contention for the WC2 spot are ass so they’re still in playoff contention

I'm hoping the Sabres make it. Buffalo deserves some happiness.

At what specifically?

Hockeying.

I don't think any of the bottom 4 teams in the Atlantic will ever make the playoffs again to be honest.

You think Boston's out forever?

You know what's strange? While I read that my first thought was I'm going to die without ever having seen Dolly Parton's boobs.

You have to be wary of any goalie coming out of Boston. They've made lots of goalies look good over the years due to their system.

I don't think Ullmark is the problem with the Sens, I think the problem is culture, making trades for big pieces before they were ready, and then getting poor returns when they trade such players. Norris also not staying elite hurt them in the long run and Pinto seems to be regressing also add in the fact they have had poor structure over the last multiple seasons could lead to players developing bad habbits. The Sens need an experienced coach someone like Torts or Sullivan would do wonders with this team.

Conversely Ottawa has been a goalie graveyard lately, Korpisalo is suddenly doing well even in a struggling Boston team.

I would agree that the team makes the goalie a lot more than the goalie makes the team, although it's not always as black and white as that. Generally speaking though...

They tried to come up too soon, trading picks in non-playoff years for DeBrincat and Chychrun looks pretty disastrous. Having such a bare prospect pool (not young roster players, prospects) with all those missed playoff years is a bad look. Perhaps may need to rebuild the rebuild which puts a team on the Buffalo extended forever rebuild timeline.

Trading Chychrun for Jensen went a long way towards fixing their defense just because of what a poor fit Chychrun was playing his off side or 3rd behind Sanderson and Chabot. Just completely moronic GMing from Dorion, would be like the Oilers buying high on Zegras or something. Jensen is half the player but a much much better fit and elevates the team. Beyond that getting Perron, extending Ullmark before he even played a game for them, getting super lucky no one claimed Gaudette when they waived him... just all around big bag of meh.
