He's as advertised with some unexpected toughness/"fire."

The IQ is actually the most surprising thing... he has a real clear path to being a franchise player with how effortlessly he can create good scoring opportunities from difficult situations.

He will never be a Mcdavid level "dont care whos on my line i will just do it myself" type of superstar. But what he will be is an incredibly entertaining and talented player who will score a lot of points every season, especially if he gets someone that can play on his level in the middle. Im actually kinda sad that he isn't with prime Giroux, that duo would've been insane, both can pass and both can score.

McDavid is already if not close to a top 5 all time player, no one is ever that, once every 25 years maybe you get one of those guys lol.

33-37-70 was my prediction

Pace is 32-36-68

So exactly as predicted

No player in NHL history is or has been McDavid.

Did not expect near a point per game right away. I thought 50-60 points and it looks like he’s gonna beat that.

Yes maybe but it's a long season and scoring tends to tighten up later on but 70 point pace was the expectation for me as he is an older 19 year old from his draft with some elite skills and decent players in Philly.

Also have to factor in Torts, playing bottom 6, being scratched, learning a new culture, learning a new style of hockey.

I think that's why many tempered expectations for this year (Vegas setting line at 46.5 points) and really expected him to really shine his sophomore year.

Sure but he has also played in a pro league and the bottom 6 thing was like scratched games not so much.

He has had plenty of rope for a rookie under Torts.

Part of this is to lure in bets and money as injuries do happen.

From a hockey and skills standpoint a 0.8-0.9 PPG average is what many expected including myself.

Yeah but you know what i meant? I wasn't saying McDavid as in what he has done, but more like how he drives his line. Actually i think you know what i meant but felt the need to just disagree for whatever reason.

50-60 points would’ve been a good prediction 10 years ago. Talents like this are capable of more as rookies in this new NHL.

How many 19 year olds are putting up 70 points in the nhl?

True, but still based on what he’s doing right now he would’ve had atleast 50-60 points 10 years ago. Can't say it was a bad prediction though because you’re right not many players under 20 get 70 points in any era.

I think it's safe to say he's playing better than the scouts of 5 NHL teams have expected. :naughty:

Did not have any expectations personally, did not follow him much.

One thing that comes to mind - I think his type of game just makes it hard for scouts to project. A lot of guys who show great vision at low levels sputter when time and space start to shrink. Could be one of the contributing factors for why he fell at the draft. I am also wondering about another vision/IQ guy from that draft that also fell - Gabe Perreault. Might be for similar reasons. Curious to see how GP's game will hold up.

He's playing as was advertised going into his draft. He dominated every level he played and looks like he will inherit the mantle of the next greatest russian forward in the NHL from Ovi and Kucherov.

He should’ve gone #2 to one of the most highly touted prospects in a long time, and he was likely being underrated even then.
His ascension should be a surprise to no one.
