the difference is that Ovi has proven before that he can take over a series. He had 11goals and 10 assists in 14 games in 09. Ovi’s first four playoffs were all over 0.5 goals per game and above a PPG all while with a weaker supporting cast. Matthews has not shown he can elevate or even maintain his game in the playoffs at all. Look at Thornton, 10 years into his career you would have said the same thing, has he been any different afterwards?
What about Barkov? Lots of examples of players that never won and weren’t superstars right at the beginning.
