With gambling being more popular with NHL marketing, and some of the recent scandals in sports. I think the likelihood of match fixing is probably the highest it’s ever been. What does your gut tell you? Is matchfixing or anything similar to that happening in the NHL? Trying to get opinions.

Odds are it is happening on some level but I don’t think it’s widespread.

Saying yes is laughable at best, and you’re probably a flat earther as well.

Unless you think goalies are on the take,
I would agree with you if the option said “yes”. It doesn’t though, it says ‘I’m pretty sure.’

Still too strong to me, I went for the middle option but i was torn.

To some degree I think so, hockey is a sport that’s makes money on entertaining. I don’t think games are completely fixed but it’s hard not to see some narratives play out that are good for the league overall.

Well, they did can a referee for admitting to "game management"

So, there's not match fixing per se but there's definitely match influencing

Also, betting lines ARE completely rigged in the house's favor

Obviously, just look at reffing, Tim Peel's case, and at how lucrative gambling is.

The problem is that they'd have to let too many people in on it. That's what went wrong when they staged the moon landing.

Come on, you guys.

The refs are trash and any time can throw down a big list of things that are very questionable, but overall I can't imagine they will.

Even in games where the disparity in talent is noticeable the better team isn't getting 10pps to 1, or none.

The NHL f***s a lot of things up, but I can't see them going that way. Potentially one person (official), potentially a small group might try it at some point, but overall I think it's too hard to do for the NHL.

Only way it can happen is if a goalie is in on it. No way you can convince the coach and the full team to throw away a game occasionally.

Maybe a preseason game where you scratch top players.

Well let’s look at it like this, in La Liga they found out that Barcelona was getting favorable reffing cause they were paying the refs. Maybe it’s not from the NHL down to the ice. But I think it’s very likely that refs match fix for their own benefit.

I don’t think it’s hard to see how much NHL refs love being in the spotlight during the match

On a league wide collaborative level? Likely not.

I do have growing concerns at the player level though. Gambling has become so accessible and normalized that I think it's a matter of time before we see some addicts playing to achieve their bet rather than the win.

Leafs tanked a whole season for Matthews and finished a single point back of second-last. Wouldn't take much match-fixing, in the right circumstances, to make a big difference.
