Is Keefe the right coach for this team at this time.

Since it's Dubas ' job on the line he gets to pick the coach. We lost to Columbus due to hot goaltending and lack of depth on defense.

So, I'll just reject the premise outright that Torts "scorched" Keefe. We generally carried the play against Columbus, but when we sucked we sucked the exact same way that we sucked under Babcock and Keefe. The mental weakness of our team has been through two coaches at this point, so I don't see why going from an asshole to a nice guy to Iron Mike would actually change things. But uh, okay.

But since you asked for thoughts, I guess I'll just ramble for a bit of fun. One of the things that I don't get about the whole, "millennials are soft and want to be coddled" thing is that even if it is true and millennials do want to be coddled, why is the answer to bring in the hard-ass scream your face off types? Effective leadership is leadership that works for a group and achieves results. These soft millennials wanting coddling leadership might actually be best served by coddling leadership and that a screaming banshee of a coach might just turn them off further. As a soft millennial myself, if someone was screaming in my face every day I can't say I'd be very motivated, because that's just trash leadership. There's times and places for leaders to yell, even the coddling ones, but a leader who turns to screaming first is just a dinosaur or the Sgt Major (who is well known to be a dinosaur). Torts knows how to scream, but there are a lot more ways of demanding (and achieving) accountability from your players than screaming.

Another thought is that I'm really amused by your use of the phrase, "Is Keefe on a short reign". What an interesting use of language this is. On first blush, it looks like you intended to substitute the word "rein" in for leash and used the wrong homonym. Reins of course refer to the straps that control a horse, while reign refers to the holding of royal office. Typical funny English homonym. But you could actually be asking if Keefe's reign will be short. So your meaning is actually quite well conveyed by either of the homonyms, despite the fact that the sentence is a butchering of a common idiom. While it was probably unintentional, well done. Well done indeed and I am quite entertained.

Indeed I do believe that Keefe could have a short reign and is on short reins if he and the Leafs do not perform well this year.

Fans always make excuses. What will be the excuse in 2021 when this team loses in the 1st round again? This not me saying Keefe sucks, I just don’t think this team has earned the benefit of the doubt. They did not win the play in series because they are not good enough. They still don’t know how to play playoff hockey.

Whose making excuses? Incorrect. They lost in the play in because Jackets got superior goaltending. They showed they can play playoff hockey. Freddy just hasn't shown to be a playoff goalie.

I'm no Andersen apologist but he played well enough for the team to win the play in round

The cold hard fact is most of our skaters didn't perform, until they do they should get no benefit of the doubt

That's something you earn with your performances

He really didn't. He allowed an awful goal in game 1. Game 3 was mainly all on him. Game 4, 2 bad goals, and game 5, 2-0 goal is unbelievable.
He let in cheap goals while Jackets goalie's didn't.

He had a 936sv%

If that isn't good enough we've got a serious problem, especially when your sinking tens of millions of dollars into offensive play drivers

Most of whom disappeared

I like Keefe. He is a breath of fresh air after the endless recycling of coaches that have failed elsewhere before their tenure here.

He isnt afraid to veer from the norms and experiment. He is definitely a boom-bust coach but I’m willing to let it play out.

While Andersen wasn’t the problem, he certainly wasn’t the solution. He played well but the team also limited Columbus’ chances. Not to mention he was up against the worst offensive team in the play-in. He was the worst of the 3 goalies that played and let in a few softies that put some games out of reach.

That doesn’t excuse the forwards, but let’s not pretend like he had a strong series either.

I just don't get how it's so hard for people to see that.

This is the 4th straight series that Andersen was outplayed by the other goalie.

And this series in particular, Columbus' goalies were simply making saves that Andersen wasn't.

Idk about schooled, but Columbus executed their game plan better.

Tbd whether Keefe can bring this team over the hump. But it's mostly on the players.

Ww would have been blown out in game 1 if it wasn’t for Andy and the Jackets goalies let on 3 bad goals .

That sounds impressive until you realize it puts him 3rd out of 3 goalies that played in that series. He's never been the best goalie in a series ever. That is an issue. He's 31. When will this happen? He was 0-4 in deciding games in Anaheim and they traded him

We don’t make decisions , if Andy is holding the team back then it’s on the Dubie to replace him .

maybe you should take a second before you post to remember who we’re fans of

it’s the team above any individual employee
what does this have to do with you completely forgetting (or not knowing in the first place) that Babcock did the same thing you tried to attack Keefe over? You can be a fan of whoever/whatever you want, but it would be a lot better if you cared more about sayings things that are true than things that are negative

I don't get why it has to be one or the other. Andersen was pretty good except for when he was bad. The team was pretty good except for when it was bad. It all adds up to not good enough. One of the two stepping up and not being bad at any point would have been enough to see us through the series. Hell, one more game of not being bad from either would have been enough to win the series. Exact same story with Boston last year. Freddy stood on his head for a few games and shat the bed in others. Team was amazing for a few games and garbage in others.

It's so frustrating as fans because we see that we have the pieces we need if they play to their potential but they never seem to manage it at the same time.

He had a .936 against the worst offense in the league with no real offensive threats and was the distant 3rd best goalie in a 5 game series.

Yes, Nylander played center the whole game in games 6 and 7. Do you know when he didn't play the full game at center? Against CBJ

I’ll have to go back and check , sorry if I don’t take your word for it .

anyway my point still stands that Keefe made a mistake by moving him to center when he barely played there all year

but I’d you think it was a wise move then your entitled to your opinion

So your saying Dubas f***ed up by not replacing him when there was a large amount of available goalies this off season .
